Siren Song
The club was very full that night, and Eliza checked in the mirror one last time to make sure every piece of fringe on her dress was straight down. She was a vision. Her light blue flapper dress with matching headband, a white feather, and the string of pearls were a great contrast to her raven hair and dark brown eyes. The music for her song began to play. She entered the stage in the blackout to sit herself on the piano. The lights came up as the audience clapped for her. She gave a nervous wave as it came time to start singing. The lights were so bright that she could only see silhouettes in the audience, which helped calm her nerves.
As she sang, she tried to sing to direct people as if she was looking them in the eyes. People seemed to be enjoying it as the clinking of glassware and dishes seemed to be minimal. The song filled her so that her smile was beaming because she truly believed in the lyrics of the song. She hoped that she would find a good man in her life like her sister.
Won't you tell him please to put on some speed Follow my lead, oh, how I need Someone to watch over me
Someone to watch over me
The final chord was met with applause as she took her bow and exited the stage. As she changed out of her clothes, the manager of the club informed her that starting next week she would have a longer set with multiple songs. This was a wonderful step forward, but it also made her nervous. Now she had so much work to do.
Her sisters and father were in the audience tonight to support her, and she told them to wait at the front door after the show to meet her. They did as she instructed. She hugged them both as they congratulated her on the new development and the performance itself. They only stayed for a few moments before saying goodbye to head home. Eliza would need to go back inside to talk over things with the director, so her father agreed to send the car to take her back later. She waved goodbye as they drove off in the car.
