I may have sowed this flax to densely...
But it's looking good!!
My flax at the allotment is looking good too! Lots of weeds though...
Gonna proces this then use it for spinning and weaving,, very excited! Won't be my first time processing, but it is my first time growing it myself!
Linnen in the making
I grew one square meter of flax this year, as part of the 1m2 flax project that started in Sweden. I planted my seeds in March, then watched it grow (reluctantly) and eventually bloom. I harvested my modest 1 square meter in august. The retting took most of September and October, and yesterday it was time for breaking, scutching, and hacking, processing the flax until only the fibre remains. It looks a lot like hair! With a lovely shine. I've twisted my flax into flax dolls, spinning is the next step in the process from flax seed to linnen. It's been really fun to see, experience and experiment with all these steps so far, I've learnt so much.
