Check out this cool #wip #sketchbook #drawing by Matt Gruneberg (@grunebergart) of what looks like a hidden turtle sanctuary deep within an underground cavern. An subterranean waterfall delivers water collected from ancient rainfall that percolated through the depths of soil and sediment and stone. Turtles of various ages and sizes are spread out throughout the caves' nooks and crannies. Are they hibernating? Or maybe they're waiting for something? The cavern looks to be extremely deep and dark, which Matt depicted using a series of increasingly dense line-hatching. Changes in texture and the slope of the stones are shown by changing the angle or direction of the lines, and by using cross-hatching mixed into the stone faces. The water seems to be flowing, with few ripples making it to the surface. Really cool bit of sketchbook doodling, Matt.
