"Oh, boy! What could it be!"
Micah's grin should have been infectious, but it doesn't seem to be catching on too much with lil Lindy. That's what happens when anti-vax becomes a real life thing! Thanks, mom and dad!
He's home for Christmas. Winter break from Caltech. Ugly sweaters all day every day, but this day in particular. He's decked out in one hand-stitched with love and care from good ol' mom. Lindy has one that matches, made to wear it to appease their parents. They look like twins! They do not, but that's what the rumor mill is churning out, straight outta dad's mouth. It has to be true!
In his hands, there's a present wrapped, but from the way Micah is shaking it up to his ear, it sure could be undone in a jiff.
"Well! I'm still alive! It's not Chlorine azide! One down, a billion to go!" He sets it down in his lap, sitting Indian style on the living room floor by the unplugged TV. This is going to be the only piece of entertainment he'll have for the day. He's living it up! It's a game of theirs, and he plays it like a monkey that has mistaken a chainsaw for a pair of cymbals.
"We've got a real barn burner down here, how about that!" he goes on as he's squeezing hard on the box, enough to dent it, going around the edges to eliminate the extra space without technically unwrapping it and finding out himself. "Is it..." his eyes scrutinize it closely for a moment, "no! I know what it is! It's the knife from Clue! Ah, sweet memories. Remember that! Mom and dad thought it was too violent for us! Well, look at us now!"
Whether or not it really is, it doesn't matter. Micah keeps it wrapped up and dented before leaning forward to hug the Lindbergh baby. It's the thought that counts after all!
