Besides practice (currently working on that! ( ̄^ ̄)ćć) do you have any tips or tricks to help get better at writing? Youāre 100,000% my favorite author and Iām so about just about everything youāve done
Reading a lot helps! I personally like to find different styles and try to copy them, but, like, badly? Copy them in my own voice, more or less. Itās a fun writing exercise and it really helps to nail down your own style. Experiment with different types of writing - first person, second person, present tense, past tense, or with different types of narrator, to see what tone you like best. Take a scene and write it from two wildly different perspectives, and then write it a third time trying to balance both of those views even if youāre coming from just one POV. Try non-human perspectives, or journal-style storytelling, or third person omniscient 80ā²s-pop culture movie voice (as in,Ā āI have everything under control,ā she said. That was a lie. Everything was not, in fact, under control.)
This all falls under the heading of practice, to me! Itās a great way of playing with your writing and turning it into something thatās always different and always a little challenging, and it really helped me figure out how IĀ write as compared to everyone else. Thereās also so many different styles, and finding the one that suits you best tends to make everything easier. I hope this is all at least a little helpful!
