âIf I wanted to leave I would have left by now.â

It was too early and too goddamn cold. Not the kind of situation that complaining made better, yet here Bebe was, using the last of her lifeblood (because it sure as hell didnât feel like she had any in her numb limbs) to work her fucking mouth.
âI swear to god, itâs so cold my tits are about to freeze off.âÂ
Said through chattering teeth. And the worst part? She was here on her own free will. It mightâve been Saturday morning, but that didnât mean she wouldnât get up for her daily swim. Some called it crazy, but it turned out that Kenny McCormick mightâve been the same kind of crazy as her, because he was awake, too.
So they made a plan. (In retrospect that was probably their first mistake. Making plans in South Park was never a good idea.) After her swim and his run, they could meet up and watch the sunrise over Starkâs Pond.
Little did they know this was on the coldest day of the month so far. And, just like the sun (WHICH WAS TAKING ITS SWEET TIME TO SHOW UP), Bebe had no warmth to offer.
âI canât blink, Kenny. The natural lubricants on my eyes are frozen, and I think if I triedââ
And then she felt something heavy on her shoulders, hanging. Glancing to the side, she caught Kennyâs profile gazing out at the water, now minus one parka. She blinked (suddenly forgetting her previous statement) and fell silent. After all her whining, she didnât expect heâd actually give up one of the only nice articles of clothing he owned. Bebe slipped her arms into sleeves, quiet for once, and turned her attention back to the sky, her frozen breath escaping with an exhale.
âYou donât need to stay here, you know.â
And he answered back, voice surprisingly calm. Comforting. It didnât shatter the hush of the woods, but seemed to wrap around it, cozy, like a home or the very parka he offered her.
âIf I wanted to leave, I wouldâve left by now.â
She didnât reply at first. Instead she kept her eyes on the horizon where the first rays of sun began breaking through. Bebe slowly moved her hands, zipping up the parka. By the time she looked at Kenny again, she was closed up all the way to her chin. With a quick tug at the strings, the hood scrunched up around her nose and mouth, until only her smiling green eyes were visible.
âMe too,â she said, though her voice was muffled, inaudible. Bebe was sure he could understand her, but, just in case he didnât, she leaned forward until the fuzzy trimming where her lips wouldâve been tickled against his cheek.
In that moment, there was nowhere else sheâs rather be.
