"I never thought a desert could get cold..."
And with the change of seasons, it only made things colder for the poor merman. Trembling near uncontrollably, Takumi began scooting himself closer and closer towards the large fireplace he'd been situated in front of by a certain translator, all while his hands tried to desperately rub away the goosebumps covering both upper and lower arms. If there was a bright side to be gained from this situation, it was that he didn't have to suffer by sitting out in the fountain -- because then he'd actually freeze.
The sound of someone approaching made Takumi's attention drift away from thoughts of the temperature, but he didn't turn around quite yet. He'd reached the perfect spot in front of the fireplace and was trying to absorb as much heat as possible before even thinking of adjusting himself. He had to eventually though, knowing that it was more than likely Koda having returned with a blanket to help Takumi get through the night. Turning around ever so slightly now, the merman looked up and noticed that a blanket had indeed been extended his way, but not by the one he'd been expecting. It was Mateus.
Takumi paused as he stared up at the emperor in what appeared to be surprise, words having clearly gotten stuck in his throat if those parted lips were anything to go by. He snapped out of it about a moment later, offering the man a rather dampened "thank you" as a result of the cold before reaching out for the warm fabric. Well, he would have taken it, but Mateus had already knelt down in order to wrap the merman up instead. And when all was said and done, those steady hands rested on top of Takumi's trembling shoulders in order to ease him back, returning the merman to a safe distance in front of the crackling fireplace.
As if by instinct, Takumi reached out from beneath the blanket and gently placed his hand upon of one of the emperor's own, "trapping" it there on his shoulder for the time being like a cat finding the perfect spot on someone's legs. However... there was something different this time. Instead of the familiar sensation of Mateus' gloves greeting Takumi's touch, it was the emperor's bare skin. How strange -- he hadn't noticed they'd been removed up till now! A surprise, but a pleasant one none the less.
Eventually the merman began to reluctantly pull his hand away. One after the other, the fingers that had become entwined with Mateus' own began to unfurl and gently drift across the top of his hand, taking in the unfamiliar sensation one last time before disappearing into the warmth and safety of the blanket. Takumi knew the emperor wasn't terribly fond of prolonged physical contact, and at the current moment? He absolutely wouldn't blame him given just how cold his hands had been up until being given the blanket.
"Your hands feel nice." Did he say that correctly? A thoughtful hum could be heard in Takumi's throat as he thumbed through his internal dictionary, but he eventually spoke up again to say something he was sure to get right. "Sit with me?"
