Lilian didn’t need to see Kiara’s face to know that the blonde was smirking.

“Hang on you two, they’ll have you out of the elevator in no time.” She called, her voice echoing down the elevator shaft, not bothering to hide her glee.

If Lilian couldn’t read minds, she’d swear the shadow walker had orchestrated the malfunction herself.

“You could come down here and get us yourself,” the telepath called, glancing at Gilbert. The man had pulled off the maintenance panel and was toying with the wiring, concentrating on his ideas of heroically rescuing the pair and Lilian finally realizing how great he was. “If you think that is going to happen, you’re out of your damn mind.”

Gilbert looked over his shoulder, looking like he was a kicked puppy.

Lilian rolled her eyes. “Kiara!”

“It’s a delicate process, LiLi, we don’t want to add my weight to something that could be as precarious as a dangling elevator.”

“I’m just going to let you realize that you just called yourself fat.” Lilian called back. “We have an army of technopaths and yet, we have elevator problems.”

“An elevator is a machine, prone to error as much as anything else.” Gilbert said, connecting wires. The lights flickered, before the elevator surged upwards. The blond man rose to his feet after he replaced the panel, looking proud. “See? No need to pull a technopath away from their duties when I’m perfectly able to -”

“I never thought you weren’t capable, Mead, just that your fantasy of me falling in love with you because you were was idiotic.” Lilian replied, pinching the bridge of her nose. The doors opened, and the telepath was greeted with Kiara’s grinning face.
