Hi, please forgive me if this is derailing. I didn't want to do it on the original post to detract from the message about trans women. I also read the original article and it linked to a case in 2013 where a 17 year old trans boy was convicted of SIX sexual assault counts and deemed a groomer for not disclosing to a 16 year old girl that he was trans. It used such wildly bad faith language by repeatedly stating the girls age while calling him a "woman" as if he was grown... its insane how this is a continuous issue apparently in the UK and how these two beautiful trans people will be deemed sexual abusers forever due to this fucked up legislature :(
Yeah I read that part of the article and didn’t know how to talk about it without distracting from the original point of the post. I did send an email to pink news about it, because beyond calling McNelly a women, despite multiple sources confirming they were questioning/exploring their gender, the article pink news links also misgenders Brandon Teena (trans man murdered in 1993) calling him a ‘young girl who passed as a boy’.
Hopefully they will edit the article and change the source they use.
It’s always hard to find news sources for trans people because no matter what there will be sprinklings of transphobia even if the news sources is a Queer News site. Transphobia is everywhere, and it’s horrible.
