Because she's manipulative and thoughtless, possibly intentionally cruel, uses her employees as chess pieces with zero regard for their emotional or physical well-being, stalks them, invades their privacy, and interferes in their lives. She's secretive for the sake of being secretive, keeps things that don't need to be kept, and hurts those she purports to love when there are countless ways to avoid causing any harm, and gives no valid reasons for doing so.
And the worst part is that because she wasn't always this way the characters/writers of the show somehow don't see her for what she's become, instead regarding her as a mother hen who'll do anything to protect her young, never in the wrong and always serving a higher purpose. She suffers no consequences for her actions and we're supposed to continue to love her and find her endearing.
