Looking at X, and his story, (which is awesome btw I love him so much and I like the way you potray him and feel bad about Nms approach to X in general but find it very interesting and amazingly written) I sometimes think about how it would be like if Nm was an actual parent.
Don't get me wrong- I love me some Toxic and terrible Nightmare. Especially when hes written as well as you write him!
And I love working with Toxic Nms in my stories too, but Im both a sucker for a evil Nm and a 'good' one. (At least what I call a 'healing' one)
And so thinking about the way for example a 'healing' Nightmare I write would interact with X, or even his own X, and how X would have a chance to have a actually solid life is interesting to me. (Sorry for dragging it so long) But if you would want to share your thoughts on how you think it would be in your opinion, I would love to hear it! No pressure tho. Have a great day/night!!

If Nightmare was like that since the beginning i imagine he would end up spoiling X rotten, and X would stick to Nightmare like his life depends on it
This always ends up with X being more on antagonist roles tho, probably because he thinks his dad is really cool and wants to be like him
If not, i do have a drawing i posted about him meeting Swan (Dreamswap Nightmare) who i consider a far more healthy iteration of Nightmare, but since this is just an already traumatized X meeting him this was the reaction
I was writing a fanfic on it, since this is one of the most interesting dynamics to me (adult that looks like Nightmare adopting X) so i have a better understanding of how that would happen
This Nightmare is very patient with him, he gives X all the time in the world to warm up to him, wich i think is very sweet. And X does end up warming up to him, it takes him a long while though, their relationship is like Ccino's with X but X never stops being quiet and speaking in demands to him
(Writing any and all interactions X would have with different characters makes me happy)
I'd love to hear more of your thoughts though! You did say you can imagine how your Nightmare would interact with X, i always welcome people making their own interpretation and stories with my characters, it's fun
