The little things.
Warning: you may want to vomit because I am EXPRESSING MY LOVE. So this year for Christmas I was spoiled from a certain someone. Keith Urban tickets were seriously the last thing I expected from Chris. I was so excited Christmas Morning I cried. Yes. I did. I am not ashamed one bit. So when we got in the car on Thursday morning to head to London, Ontario for his concert I felt like it was Christmas all over again. Not to mention that he bought Suzy Q donuts for the drive, the car was cleaned, he made me a juice that morning and downloaded the new One Direction album. He knows the way to my heart. Side note: I am the type of person, like most people I am sure, that get really sad when things end. I actually anticipate the end. I said on the drive up, I am so excited but sad that it will end tonight. It’s almost this pain I get in my chest and for the week following (while I carry on with my busy, boring work life) I always think “Oh this time last week I was laying on the beach” or “Oh this time last week I was seeing Keith Urban”. So I woke up the next day with that oh familiar feeling I get. Chris knows what I’m talking about. I tell him all the time. So I simply said “he’s playing in Toronto tonight, I wish we could go”, his reply “YOLO” (if you don’t know what this means… I don’t know what to say to you). I will never forget the way I felt preceding this 4 letter statement from him. It wasn’t the fact that I was about the see Keith Urban another night in a row. It was the mere fact that Chris was spontaneous, he was adventures, he wasn’t concerned about changing the plans and doing whatever we wanted to do. You see, I grew up with very timely, organized, structured parents, and although I love them both to the moon and back, it just isn’t me. I don’t plan a trip and then take 4 weeks for get ready for it. I plan a trip and I stay up until 5am (when I have to leave at 6am) to finish packing. It’s just who I am and growing up it was something that I couldn’t fully express. But with Chris, I can and I did and he was receptive. So we headed to Toronto (we realized, we have been to Toronto a million times… but never together so it added something a bit more exciting to our day). We parked the car and shopped at the Eaton Center and walked around. We hadn’t booked a hotel yet, we didn’t know if we were going to stay with friends. All we had was our car and pair of Keith Urban tickets for the nose bleeds section. That’s it. It may seem like nothing, but it felt like a “no strings attached” kinda day and to this moment it still makes me smile. It was something I forgot that we could do together. When we travelled Europe this was our whole three weeks. Wake up (that was the only schedule we really had, apart from trains), talk about our experience the day before, and just walk. We didn’t know where we wanted to go, what we wanted to see or how we were going to see anything. We just walked, talked and stumbled across things like the Eiffel Tower, the Coliseum, Big Ben (okay so we may have planned to see major attractions, but it didn’t feel like planning). It may have seemed to Chris like just another weekend for the books. Another experience together. But for me it was more. It made me realize that those spontaneous, no strings attached kind of moments are one of many reasons why I feel in love with him. He is easy going, laid back and adventurous. Sometimes, in the chaos of life, this slips my mind. So I now vow to have an unprompted moment once a month together. It doesn’t have to be a Toronto trip, or a Europe trip but that’s the thing about a spontaneous trip… it is well… spontaneous and will lead us wherever we want. We are in Florida next month, with a rented car, oh the places we will go ;) To say the least, it was refreshing on our 10 hour drive home from Toronto (it’s only a 5 hour drive… but when living in Canada... you can only imagine) to recognize the little things I love him for. I am so grateful to have found someone who balances me out. Trina PS: the sign I made for the concert was in fact read by Keith Urban, as he said "630 km, thank you baby". It is safe to say, everyone around me was jealous!
