Part 1 LIGHT METERS
Q1 - WHAT DOES A HANDHELD LIGHT METER MEASURE? HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM A CAMERA LIGHT METER?Â
A handheld light meter measures natural light that already exists on location, or light that is brought on the scene such as fluorescent light or LED, it also measure the intensity of the light and calculates the exposure. The difference between this and a camera light meter is that a camera light meter measures the overall exposure of the reflected light and not the light that is directly shone on the subject.
Q2 - CHECKING IF YOUR EXPOSURE IS OVER, UNDER, OR CORRECTLY EXPOSED ALLOWS YOU TO DO WHAT FOR YOUR IMAGE?
It will save you time in the long run when editing if your picture is correctly exposed, by reviewing the picture just taken you can make any slight adjustments required in order to take the correct photograph after or able to take the same picture again knowing it will be the correct exposure.
Q3 - WHY DID JEFF ROJAS SET HIS SHUTTER SPEED TO 1/200TH OF A SECOND AND HIS ISO TO 100?
To freeze the subjects in the frame and eliminate the blur of the object/clothing in the image.
Q4 - BY ENTERING THESE SETTINGS INTO THE LIGHT METER , WHAT WILL THE LIGHT METER CALCULATE?
The light meter is going to be focusing on giving him the right aperture for the scene.
Q5 - WHY SHOULD YOU HOLD YOUR LIGHT METER AGAINST YOUR SUBJECT?
It evaluates the amount of light reaching the subject and disregards how light or dark the subject will be and eliminates errors caused by a back lit subject.
Q6 - IF YOU WANTED A MOODIER IMAGE, WHY SHOULD YOU MOVE THE LIGHT METER TO RECORD THE BRIGHTEST LIGHT?Â
The device will disregard the shadows on the subjects face giving a higher exposure. It will only take into account the brightest light and will not take into account the exposure of the shadows.
