Hey! I updated Cinema Secrets finally and it seems there's been a lot of changes to lights. Especially candles now barely emit any light. Idk if I did something wrong or if that's just how you configured them. Is there a way I can change this myself in general though? I'd definitely prefer a bit brighter candles and if I just knew what to change in which lighting related files I'd definitely do it. I can change cc ones but I'd prefer to change the brightness of certain Maxis lights themselves that cc lights also use to what works better for me. I hope it's ok to ask!
Hello, so a lot of the candles are based on Radiance Lighting System's settings, which barely emit any light on candles by design. However you can change this by playing around with the light object definitions.
Uf you want something closer to what vanilla or mods like Maxis Match Lighting Mod does it, you can head over to the LightDefs folder in the base game Lights folder.
This will get long so I'll place under a cut.
In a vanilla game, or mods like Maxis Match Lighting Mod, you would find this in the Lights folder of the EP or SP of the lighting object the CC light is based on. For candles, it's usually Bon Voyage, Celebration, or IKEA, sometimes Nightlife? Not entirely sure.
In Cinema Secrets and my newest lighting mod (ultimate collection), the default configuration is placed in a single LightDefs folder.
The beauty of modding lighting configuration is that you can edit and see the changes as you go. So open up your game and let's get cracking.
Now, I know for certain that some of @pforestsims's candle lights for example are based on one of the IKEA stuff pack lights, so let's use that as an example.
Go to LightDefs\SP8Lights.nlo, which is where the IKEA stuff lights are.
Let's use the tea light as an example ("lightingTableTealightIkeaPS_light"). There are two kind of definitions usually at play here. The first on top is the kind of light, the second is the color of the light itself.
You would want to update the first definition from FireTable (which is a very low, very small light) to something like Three or Four (which is closer to how the Maxis lights work.
The other option is to change the definition of FireTable itself so it affects all lights with that setting, but that takes a bit more finagling around.
Save, then back in the game, type "slc" (assuming the aliases are set up correctly) or "setlotlightingfile clear" if you don't have the aliases. Then the lighting should change.
