#lighthouse conversion

Adorable little 1881 lighthouse for sale on the Taunton River, in Somerset, MA. 1bd, 1ba, 900 sq ft. $1.1m. Unlike the deteriorated old ones you usually see, this one's been completely restored and is move-in ready. Comes fully furnished and is accessible by a 3 minute boat ride- the sale also includes a 22ft Deck Boat.

This little Canadian lighthouse is so cute! 

The 1st level is a little sitting area and kitchen, plus a shower.

The 2nd level is a bedroom.

Out on the porch is a toilet for the bedroom. 

There’s a little loft on the 3rd level. 

And, the 4th level is for observing the scenery.

Yipes! The converted Burnham High Lighthouse in England is 100 ft. tall and has 8 floors! It has 3 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, and a lantern room- each room takes up a whole circular floor. That’s a lot of stairs.

The granite entrance reveals original walls which are well over a meter thick. However, the curved walls might make hanging pictures problematic. 

Artist Randy Polumbo was searching gov’t. websites for old fuel tanks for sale so he could make a private artist studio out of one. Then, he came across the adorable 1899 Orient Point Lighthouse off Long Island, New York. He bought and took 5 yrs. to turn it into his home, which he named the Plum Gut Grotto.

He built the teak table around a column to seat 6.

The Burnham Lighthouse conversion is 8 floors of living space b/c it’s 113 ft. tall. Yikes! Let’s take a look:

Is that a fireplace behind the sofa? Like the glass block wall. 

I wonder if they carved these niches, like the one the stove is in, or if they were here already. The kitchen isn’t terribly cheerful, is it?

It has 3 bedrooms b/c it does have 8 floors. That definitely was a fireplace original to the structure. I wonder why all the ceilings are different.

I wonder what floor the bathroom’s on- can you imagine having to run up several flights of stairs?

This must be the top floor- a little dizzying. The rooms are tight, it’s 8 stories high, but I love it. 

A lucky couple bought this Virginia lighthouse and immediately began to get busy restoring it. The exterior is freshly painted, (is that an outhouse hanging over the side?), and the interior is in mid-restore, but it’s livable. Here’s the progress:

Beautiful door and old exposed brick that I would leave alone. 

The kitchen and living room are done. Can you imagine not only getting the supplies and furnishings here by boat, but actually bringing them up the ladder and over the rail to the building.

This would be my hangout place. 

We’ve seen junky old cheap lighthouses for sale by the gov’t. This is what they look like when people have the means to refurbish them. (Kinda looks like an owl, doesn’t it?)

This is the Warden lighthouse in England. It’s small, just one bedroom.
