he laments the reality in which sins committed by men who are no longer capable of bearing them fall to a girl who had no part in them. he has long since matured from the sheltered youth in exile he once was. his world extends beyond the breadth of one small town and he stands a leader in his own right, but a true conqueror he will never be. 

there are private wars waged in julia’s heart that seliph knows cannot be subdued by the sword. inwardly it pains him to think he has failed her in any way— that even within an arm’s length of distance he may not be able to reach her or some outside force could spirit her away again in a moment’s notice.  

Her head immediately raises up at the peep of her daughter’s voice, activities brought to a halt as she gives her undivided attention. And what she is greeted with greatly brightens her mood.

The earth dons her child’s hands, wild flowers messily gathered together as a small gift. Julia herself was a little messy. She could see dirt peppered upon her skirts and sleeves. ( Gods only know what poor Julius looked like. ) And yet Deirdre couldn’t help but smile brightly, beaming at the mere thought of the two of them rustling around trying to pick what kinds of flowers would make their mother happy. With all the extravagance that court life brings, it is always the simplest moments with her children that brings Deirdre the most joy. 

“Darling, they’re lovely! I adore them so. You and your brother must have worked especially hard to pick these flowers out, no?” A soft chuckle escapes her lips, a hand gently cradling the back of her daughter’s head as she clings to her mother’s waist. Taking her gift into her hands, she slowly bends down to her daughter’s level, and picks out one of the wildflowers and tucks it behind her ear. To assure that they would match, Deirdre takes out another flower to put in her own hair. There… wonderful.

“Oh, don’t you look wonderful?” she chimes a bit playfully, arms wrapping around her little body in a warm hug. As a show of her thanks, and also perhaps she simply looked adorable, she plants a kiss upon the crown of Julia’s head. “Your gift made me so happy, Julia. Thank you.” A light nuzzle against her cheek was made before she finally rises, taking her little hand into her own. “Come, let’s go find your brother. I’m certain that he wants his thanks for his help too.”

                  Something within him was in a great deal of pain. That much he could realise — recognising it was far from caring at all for it, but Julius — no… Loptyr could recognise that whatever shredded remnants of the actual Julius’ psyche remained in their shared body was in a great deal of agony, and had been ever since they’d first started their headbondhood on the night that they’d slain their mother. He could not peer into the boy’s heart enough to gauge his exact thoughts; they were muddied with time, diluted over years spent slowly being suffocated beneath the awesome might of a dragon’s great soul getting vacuumed into a body as small and feeble as his, and though he had to recognise the great deal of willpower it took to refuse to completely die for as long as he did it was all for naught. Fairy tales wove stories revolving around love triumphing over evil, of fire-forged bonds being more powerful than swords brought into being from the hottest flames and sharpened with the highest quality whetstones, of willpower being enough.

                  It was not. He smiled, stolen lips curled taut over teeth that’d grown unnaturally sharp in the presence of so vile a soul and so potent a magical inclination, and he reached out to weave the pointed tips of his fingernails through his sister’s hair.

                  “… You’re right, dear sister. I can’t say I ever chose any of this. However…”

                                     His smile widened, just a bit.

julia got her hair from grandpa kurth but her mom’s hair is so fluffy and pretty!

I like to think Celly’s hair gets curlier/floofier as he ages. Sigurd’s hair is pretty fluffy as well, it’s bizarre how straight Celly’s seems outside his 90s bangs
