WIP a mock magazine cover for Lightbright because we’re repping SEA girlies in this house, but I wanna discuss the worldbuilding I tripped into language-wise, which happens to be why Caminus is called “Caminus” in Ties That Bind.
It is written as Kaminus in Malay, one of the more prevalent ethnicities on Caminus (which has a heavily Asian demographic, skewing to South and SouthEast) since that’s how it’s pronounced of course, we don’t have a hard “C”, but the idea is that Kaminus/‘Caminus’ is the short form of Kaminusantara. Kami means either “We/Our” in Malay while Nusantara is an old Javanese term that means “outer islands”.
Given that TTB’s Caminus is designed as a floating 'country' divided into several city ‘islands’:
It's particularly fitting to describe the settlement and have a sort of shared, collective ownership of the Titan among them (no one group of people has a bigger claim on it) because forget where you came from or what your issues with each other back on Earth were: This is a new planet, and these are our islands.
