I miss my home - BIG time. I was fortunate to always be surrounded by interesting and kind people, who encouraged my decisions and my ideas, and who inspired me in so many ways. But today, my heart is here in Montreal – and I see inspiration everywhere. 

In Bucharest, my life moved at a brisk pace. After finishing my studies in communication and PR in 2004, all I wanted was to do something with my hands; the thought of working in advertising frightened me, and I avoided it for quite some time. But no matter how much I wanted to avoid this industry, my path kept leading me there. It was a fear that needed to be overpowered. So, after 7 years alongside my husband as a founding partner of an event ticketing startup, I decided that I want to take a closer look at advertising.

I new it would be temporary and that the experience will benefit me regardless of the path I decide to follow. I enjoyed it more than I expected to and I felt in my element – I was surrounded by beautiful and creative people, and I was learning something new every second. 

Still, working in the agency was taking up more and more of my time and I had very little remaining for anything else. I was there at least 10 hours a day, and I spent the remaining few hours either with friends or baking cakes. It wasn’t easy working full time while also devoting the necessary time to develop the Weiner’s brand that I wanted to test in Romania before my arrival in Montreal.

I started baking cakes for friends and my small Facebook community in Bucharest. I gave away several slices of my magic chocolate cake to several of my colleagues in the agency to see people’s reactions, and I was pleasantly surprised. In a short time, I managed to build a loyal clientele and I felt that bringing a little bit of joy to people who are dear to me is what fulfills my personality.   

Adapting, integrating, and the entire process of self-rediscovery in a new world is another challenge that I want to take on now, and I want to give it my best. Back in Romania I already had a group of friends and a community that knew both my product and me; here, things are quite different. While it’s not always easy to make new friends in a new world, to build everything from scratch, and adapt to all the cultural differences, launching the cake in such a large market is most certainly my biggest challenge - and my new adventure in life.
