Groupama skippered by (FRA) Franck Cammas on leg 8 Lisbon to Lorient of the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race. The Volvo 70 is just shredding through the Atlantic swells at 40knts to take the overall win. Thanks Thierry Leygnnac @bretagne_helico for some phenomenal flying. This is a similar stretch of water to where the current Volvo boats are sailing in the 2017-18 race. 48 hours from the finish, Groupama’s mainsail got jammed at the top of the mast, just as they were trying to reef down. Their kiwi bowman Brad Marsh took one for the team and climbed to the top of the 31-metre mast three times to effect repairs. One of my favourite images of the race.
