Sparklers
On a summer night
I was standing in a field
And held a sparkler
And lit it on fire
As the flames and flares danced
Among the black curtain of night
I began to think
Perhaps we are a sparkler
Our lives begin with the strike of a match
The begging of a spark
And event that can alter both time and space
That produces consciousness
Our lives are full of sparks
Of moments that dance to and fro
Across the veil
That is our conciousness
Some sparks are bright
And fill us with joy
And some are dim
And leave us down
But after a while
The sparkler fizzles
With a great show
And then eternal darkness
But when this sparkler dies out
It does not end
It inspires feelings
Of awe and joy
That live on
In those who observe
A hint of smoke
A flash of light
The strike of a match
The grip of the handle
We leave feelings in those around us
And in a way
We live on
In those who saw our sparks
And before long
Another sparker is manufacturered
And we can pour ourselves
Our sparks
Our smiles
Our tears
Our prides
Our sorrows
Our spirit
And the sparkler is lit on fire
And we beggin again
We live
We spark
And we extinguish
But our fire
Is never really
Gone
