What should I name D's adopted son
Been writing my short story for class & suddenly started thinking about Life Given. Losing my mind a lil bit rn, bc it occurred to me that D's name would be better off as a different initial. M, to be exact.
Like, M is near the middle of the English alphabet order. That's a plus point since (currently-named-)D's parents are Aeria and Zagreus, and I put quite a bit of emphasis on godly initials in the story. His specialty is magic, a word that starts with an M, so the word association is another point in favor. And it wouldn't even be that difficult of a switch, since the human brothers that spark the whole story are called Daniel and Michael Leben. My guy could just go around using the name Michael instead of Daniel. Also, the theme of Life Given is. Well. Life. The 'M' sound is one of the first deliberate(?) sounds newborn babies make- hence why nearly every culture calls mothers some variation of 'mama', you know? Calling him M would really drive home the 'human life' themes and imagery. (Indeed, this is also why I picked M-initial names for the characters in my planet gods story. Mir, Min, Memil, etc.) The initial 'D' had been a very random pick too. I'd wanted something near the beginning of the alphabet, back when Life Given was a very small project. I hadn't planned for there to be that many gods and godlings.
On the other hand. If anyone has actually been reading all my ramblings on Life Given, one would know that currently 'M' is the name of B's younger sister, the automaton godling. I'm worried that switching would make things confusing for myself. Also, since all the godlings are supposed to be similar in age, if I change the MC's name all of them need to be renamed to something closer in alphabetical order to M. Some of which probably wouldn't work as well as they do now, like E(their parents are the three gods of love, and E is supposed to have a vowel initial like them/share the E initial with one of them). And I know that some people will just think of the James Bond lady when they hear the name 'M', which really isn't something I want for the character currently named D. And regarding the 'life' themes- well, the 'D' sound is one of the second deliberate(?) sounds a newborn baby makes, hence why fathers are often called dada, baba, papa, etc. Something a little off from the "proper" symbol of life is something that actually suits my fallen godling very well.
Life Given is something I plan to work on for a long time. Preferably at least a few decades. This story is something I want growing alongside myself, something I want affected by all the experiences I will go through. D has been called D for nearly 4 years now. Even if his name's origin was mere coincidence, it's a coincidence that has weaved itself and grown into my conscious, my life. That fact alone makes me hesitate to just... change his name, just like that.
So yeah, I'm having many thoughts about this. I'll probably need to give it a week or so to cook.
Got 3 notes on the previous post so here's my (very short & unorganized) Life Given playlist :D
Okay, so I may end up having Shoichi live to be fifty or sixty. Which is still a pretty short life, but it's a whole lot better than his ancestors who died in their early thirties at oldest.
Also Haruki's a warlock now.

✨️slowly revealed tragic backstories✨️is just enrichment for our OCs, they'll be fine
True true. Shoichi is destined to die young but he'll be fiiiiine~ A little death never hurt anyone! Look at Zagreus, he died young too and he's fine! And D's been on the run for 200 years(and counting), he's as humorous as ever! In fact, he's gotten sassier and snarkier! It's definitely not an unhealthy way of coping with extreme stress and trauma! :D
