Not to advocate lying, but go to a different vet. Tell them you just got your cat and she probably needs her shots. You can even say you got her from a friend who didn't keep her up-to-date and that you want to fix that. Doesn't fix the phone call issue, but might help you dread it slightly less!
That was my plan. But this vet is like. less than a quarter mile away. i would feel so dumb driving my cat 20 minutes away to the next-nearest vet with her screaming the whole time when the other vet is right there.Ā

In England ALL cats go outside, they wonāt let you adopt until you fit a cat flap! So their judgment of your cat care standards is geographically EXTREMELY subjective and by no means a moral absolute
Thank you!! I grew up with outdoor cats. I always felt like this hardly counts-- Chita just goes into our backyard, and occasionally ventures father, but sheās a Scaredy Cat and comes right back. She spends 99.9% of her time crouched under a specific bush in our back yard looking at the fence. But she got into a fight with another cat-- we broke them up right away but she got a cut, so we brought her in to the vet. And sheād hidden it from us, as cats do, so we didnāt see it until the next day, and they acted like we were Neglectful and Also Evil, and insisted on describing in great detail a cat theyād recently had to put down whoād been savaged by a dog. I was like, I do not need to hear about that, I have had cats my whole life and lost one to being hit by a car, I know what can happen to them but I also know she was going insane stuck inside our house and she just wanted to go into the yard and itās not her fault our neighborās cat is an asshole.

I HATE making Those Phone Calls :( and if itās any consolation, we have three chihuahuas and Iām a shitty dog mom to them ALL.
I love my cat! And I hate making her suffer! I had her vaccinated when she was a baby, I had her fixed, sheās never forgiven me, I would take her in if she got sick. I try my best. Iām sure you try your best too. We canāt all be perfect. The car stresses her out so much, I hate doing it, and she hates the vet, and I just. I want to be good. But itās hard. And people are sanctimonious dicks. I can see being a dick to someone whoās got a pet theyāre ignorant of how to properly care for and donāt care to find out how to do it right, or who they mistreat or wonāt accept that they canāt properly care for-- but she is a cat, she is well-fed, she is healthy, yikes. I would love a more care-intensive pet but I know I donāt have the time/$$.Ā

you could look into finding someone to look after the kitty with rover. i'm currently sitting through there and it's an easy way to find sitters with no phone calls required (just text). you can hire a house sitter or just someone to do drop-ins periodically. probably cheaper and less stressful than boarding her at the vet! if you go to my profile https://www.rover.com/sit/anniek25 and use my code- VERYGOODDOGS20 you can get $20 off your booking. Hope that helps!
There are so many different pet minding services!!! Thereās one around here where theyāll come and sit with your pet for x minutes a day, on up through one where theyāll move into your house and live there without touching your stuff, just so your pet is cared for. My mind is blown.
I donāt want anyone to see how I live, though, so Iām really thinking having her boarded is the way to go. I donāt want to board her at the vet, though, because she haaaaaaates the vet.Ā
It turns out the vetās office has an online registration form, which Dude actually knew and for some reason thought Iād click through and find out even though he was texting me on my phone at work and I donāt generally click links to complex websites on my phone at work? So I flipped out and had an anxiety freakout and only after all that was he like oh thereās a form.
Anyway. I made him do it while I made dinner.
Weāll see if theyāre dicks to us, but at least they wonāt be a dick to me over the phone. If theyāre dicks, Iāll be there with Dude.Ā
I just ordered a very blingy cat collar on Amazon and some flea medication because Iām not buying it from the vet. Also my cat doesnāt have fleas. Iād know if she did. (Dude never lived on a farm. I spent my childhood constantly dealing with flea infestations. Iām not particularly alarmed by them. Especially not with modern flea medicines.) But you have to have treated the cat for the boarding place, and I figure Iāll dose her right before we bring her in, because then they can see that I did. (The kind you put on their necks leaves a mark.)Ā
<3 <3 <3 <3 to everyone who said nice stuff, I needed to hear some nice stuff, I was very upset and it turns out I didnāt need to be but that doesnāt mean I wasnāt upset.Ā
