Hi I have a big problem it seems that every single time that I try to write a story no matter what type of genre or people are in it I always seem to get stuck when I start writing and I write maybe a couple hundred words and then I just drop blanks and I do have the main idea and but I want to create a connection from my brain to the paper so I was wondering if you have any tips on how I can possibly fix that and maybe find a way to take my imagination and be able to spread out on pieces of pap
The ol’ mind to hand to paper problem, huh? This is a common problem, so don’t despair. It goes away with practice. To help that happen, keep writing those little hundred words snippets. Those build up, believe it or not! Keep writing as often as you can, as consistently as you can, trying to stick as much to the same story as you can. Don’t worry about how clunky it may feel; don’t worry about the right words; don’t worry about how long it takes you. Writing is an endurance race. Little by little, you’ll build up to being able to write more at a time. 750words is out there that gives you a word to write on and you gogogo on journaling, poetry, or fiction until you have 750 words. If you can manage to do that for an extended period of time, it’ll start to translate into your own fiction, too.
Don’t forget that sometimes music can help you concentrate better; your surroundings may be influencing you; how you’re positioned may be inhibiting you (I write best laying on the floor and get stunted when I’m not); maybe your paper/notebook or your pen isn’t ideal; or maybe you’re built for computer writing instead! All these things can impact how well those ideas are jumping onto the page. Try everything you can think of, and then keep trying.
