In which Kyle leaves the Wilds (or forces himself to) for the first time||Liana & Kyle
The message tree. Blue mentioned it once or twice; Kyle just didn't care much because what are the chances that there would be a message for him? The only friends he'd ever had, and pretty much the only people he'd talked to, were Liana, Tack, and now Blue.
Curiosity got the best of him. He checked, even though he doubted there'd be anything for him anyways. Kyle took a quick glance and he would've walked away if he hadn't seen the 'K' showing from a folded-up piece of paper. He swallowed and got the paper, unfolding it; his heart nearly jumped at seeing his name--and the name that signed it.
Kyle, it's been a while. You should come to this party tonight.
--Liana W.
Liana. His childhood friend--his best friend. Kyle looked at the paper again. How long was that note in there? The paper looked more new than beaten up so it was probably there recently, maybe a few hours or a day ago.
So Liana was there and he didn't know about it. And she was inviting him to go to this... party. He's heard about those; it was hard to picture what it would be like, though. A part of him wanted to go, but the other part wanted him to stay. He hasn't really left the Wilds before and he was planning not to. The risks of getting caught, possibly killed... Well, what was there to live for anyways? His parents were dead, he barely saw his old friends; Kyle pretty much had nothing to lose.
Kyle knew where to go; which paths to take and where the "safe" gate was. It was dark; less people would be out. If he climbed the gate, it would be the farthest he'd ever be from the Wilds. But the thought of seeing Liana again would make it all worth it.
He climbed. Once he got to the other side, he kept walking, not sure what to expect. But then he heard it--the sound of music. Faint music, off in the distance. 'You should come to this party tonight.' The words appeared in his head; he heard her voice say them to him. Taking a deep breath, Kyle glanced back at the gate before forcing himself to move on.
He eventually made his way to the building, where the music sounded muffled through the walls. He exhaled before stepping in through the door were he was met with laughter and talking and the music. At the sight of how many people were there, Kyle wanted to avoid them as much as possible; maybe hide in the shadows and stay there, hoping to not attract attention. But the thought of seeing Liana again replaced all those thoughts and he scanned the crowd.
Then he saw her. The raven-haired girl dancing in the middle of the room, other people surrounding her. Kyle knew trying to get her attention from where he stood was almost impossible, but he didn't want to go and push through that many people just to get to her. He might lose sight of her if he did so. He sighed, staying where he stood, hoping by some miracle that she would see him.
