I think I would have enjoyed the show a lot more if the Leviathans were much weirder about Castiel. I mean. Look at this:

Also sorry for the lack of ask answering, I’ve been a tad overwhelmed lately 😅 I really do appreciate the interest and the kind comments.

Anyway this one kind of had me getting back to my leviathans and kind of revisiting some of their designs. So I kind of went all out in redrawing them specifically for this size chart, because you’re right anon I like size charts too.

Apologies, these might look a bit crunchy and I’m also posting their standalones as well.

These are all the leviathan class fauna that have been recorded and classified by Ladder expeditions, so they’re only the known leviathans ;)

I’m starting off with the lightweights. They’re not nessecarily leviathans but just so you can actually see the human comparison on the page (I added alt text to these just in case)

Then we immediately move on up to the heavy hitter classes:

With Motley and the Procession I felt like they were too cutesy looking in my first posts about them here and here. So I kind of made them look more like a gastro-siphonophore beast of several different creatures.

Some more tidbits of data below the cut:

S6 cas: was working together with a demon, was lying to sam and dean, did accidentally release the leviathans

however

S4 sam: was saving lives with his power, was exercising and killing demons, was not aware that his actions would lead to the breaking of the final seal

S6 cas: was torturing monsters to get to purgatory, was killing his brothers and sisters, did destroy sam's mind wall, was aware of the risks of opening the gate to purgatory

S4 sam: was saving people and hunting things (the family business), was trying to make his curse into something good, was trying to stop the apocalypse and save the world

S6 cas: was trying to gain power so he could destroy his brothers and sisters enemies, was playing god and killing people, was willing to kill sam, dean and bobby if they didn't obey him

the style experimentation here comes not only from the art being a bit angstier than I'd usually go for, but also with the coloring and shading styles I used. the brush ('pencil') is one I've recently been using exclusively for shading sometimes when I want to give shadows a more 'layered' feel, but I decided to try coloring with it as well to texture Cas' clothes and face and such. the Leviathan are actually colored with a different brush ('airbrush') to make them feel more inky and unnatural and like those hands don't belong there, the techniques subtly clashing if you really look at them. I also tried to add some red and blue highlights to Cas' hair, skin, and clothes to add more depth to the colors and also used smudging and blurring effects for the first time on the background and shading layers respectfully. also also side note but I think I enjoyed adding in some injuries a little too much and probably shouldn't have added so many oops. blood is weirdly fun to draw

oh also also also made this into a bad gif. idk if it adds anything to the experience or not but here it is anyway ig. I swear this idea was also inspired by some other art I saw somewhere but idk where or what so I'm ignoring that before I go crazy thinking about how much stuff I've made that's probably just ripping somebody else's idea off and making it worse lol. the chest pain really did give me the mental image either way

but yeah I'm down for some critiquing as always, would be good to get that from someone other than me maybe. I think the Leviathan hands look a bit too two-dimensional but I was trying to make them like thick inky sludge that's just liquid-y enough to slip through any cracks in Cas' desperate containing hold while leaving streaks of that goo behind, making their escape kind of inevitable and even more upsetting. idk why most of said hands are right hands btw. I actually went back and changed a few to be left hands instead but not sure why that seems to be my default. additionally the folds in the clothes only sorta make sense if you look at them for over 30 seconds ,_,
