Spanish Genders [Part 1]
Generel rules, exceptions aside*
Generally speaking, looking at the end of the nouns we can determine if it’s femenine or masculine. There are exceptions, of course, which will be shown in other posts.
Masculine words normally end in
-L, -O, -N, -E, -R, -S
Examples:
El sol, el corral, el atril, el temporal El oro, el moco, el ácido, el elemento El examen, el pan, el patrán, el cancán El brazalete, el mapache, el machete, el norte El amor, el fulgor, el lémur, el sur El compás, el bus, el viernes, el cactus
Femenine words normally end in
-A, -D, -IÓN, -Z, -IS, -IE, -UMBRE
Examples:
