My youngest son, Milo (Dirty Steve) shooting my Ruger AR-556 at the steel targets mounted at 200 yards. I started him at six years old with a Daisy 880 BB gun. He's a pretty good shot for so little experience with a real rifle.
This is my Savage Arms Model 110 left-handed bolt action in 6.5Creedmoor. I also purchased this pre-owned from The Gettysburg Trading Post. The scope is on there just for the pic. I never shot it like this.
Instead, I ordered proper Leupold scope rings and mounted it correctly. I shuffled scopes around at this time. I put a Swamp Fox Trihawk 3x prism optic on my AR-15; Moved its scope to the SFAR; and mounted my highest magnification/largest objective lens scope to the 110. I also ordered two 10-round magazines for the 110.
The positioning is perfect for eye-relief.
She dialed right in at 200 yards with only few rounds after being laser bore-sighted. She can consistently hit the 4-inch steel target at that distance, without fail.
Another gift from my wonderful girlfriend: A carbon fiber tripod with ball-head Arca-Swiss mount, for my spotting scope. This thing is just magnificent and a real upgrade from my cheap little aluminum photog tripod I had been using. The brand is Sirui and it can be found on Amazon.
It doesn't go low enough that I can spot from my seating shooting position, but it does pull the perfect heigh for standing at the shooting bench to spot. For how nice it is, and how stable it is, the trade off of having to get up to spot my shots is worth it. Ideally, I'm either spotting for someone, or I am shooting while someone is spotting for me, so it's really no big deal.
One of my favorite shops in Gettysburg is Retreads Military Surplus at the Outlet Shoppes. Cindy there is just fantastic! I bought this case for something like only $35 and it was a perfect fit for the retail packaging foam for my Leupold spotting scope. There is even room in the lid-half for my tripod!
Retreads has a wide variety of military surplus cases. They priced really cheap and are endlessly useful!
Retread has lots of new inventory, too. If you are able to find these cases on Amazon, you would absolutely just be blown away by the price. At Retreads, the were a total steal! Water tight and vacuum sealable!

Another fantastic purchase from Redding's Hardware: My Leupold X-2 Alpine HD 20-60x 80mm spotting scope! Often times when I hit the range I spend more time spotting for other shooters and I do shooting, myself.
