Leucoagaricus crystallifer
I was incredibly excited to find this mushroom because, if my identification is correct, this is a very rare fungi to find in Britain, and indeed throughout the range it grows in - so much so that I didn’t pick the single one I found growing in a greenhouse in Kew to photograph the gills.
This mushroom is identified by its small umbo, and smooth cap with flakey, almost fluffy scales towards the edge. As it matures, the snow-white cap will become a light ochre, especially towards the centre, while the gills will turn a pale pink.
Predictably, there’s not a lot of information on the edibility of these mushrooms, though the rarity means it shouldn’t be gathered, regardless.
