Too Small Intestines
The rarity of some genetic disorders can make them difficult to study in patients. An animal model that replicates some of the disease mechanisms can help researchers, and a new study has developed the first zebrafish model for Feingold syndrome type 1, which causes incomplete development of the gastrointestinal tract among other symptoms. The condition is caused by mutations in the gene Mycn (stained green, active throughout the intestines of healthy fish, pictured). The mutant fish developed short intestines with reduced folding, and the deletion of Mycn impacted other genes as well, including those in a central regulator of protein synthesis, the mTOR signalling pathway. Supplementation with leucine, a building block that activates the mTOR pathway, helped restart protein synthesis and led to a partial recovery of intestine size. If the mechanisms translate to human biology, this simple supplement could bring relief to patients with Feingold syndrome type 1.

to everyone in the acotar fandom, to those who spread these hateful things, it's disgusting. while i would love to be excited or happy over the news of an adaptation, i was terrified when i heard for this reason. the toxicity in the fandom and the hate from the ship wars and now casting is ridiculous and shouldn't be here. what makes you think this was acceptable behavior? this fandom used to be loving snd fun and kind and we could build each other up. now it seems like we're only tearing each other down. do better.
to everyone who has been harassed or hurt by something in this fandom, i would like to apologize and say i'm sorry for what happened. i love you and you are amazing and that fact won't change depending on where you are in the ship wars or casting or whatever. be kind, be strong, and love others. make the fandom back into a court of dreams instead of keeping it in the court of nightmares.

From Go To Whoa: Saturday Round-up 2 December 2017 With temperatures edging up towards 30Β°C in the morning, it was hot work out there with the GLU run crew on Saturday. π We concentrated on our cadence. My cadence is pretty good - it's the power drive I lack. But after so many years on and off catabolic prednisolone, that is to be expected - fast twitch die first! My 'thumbs-up' in the photo is a bit awkward though (sorry Vanessa π). I had a whey protein-boosted coffee chill ready when I got home. Being on prednisolone, it is important to give my muscles their protein building blocks soon after exercise to prevent muscle breakdown. Likewise older women should get down amino acids like leucine to offset lean muscle loss after exercise, as hormonal changes mean some carbohydrate uptake is impeded and the body finds protein an easy second option - we don't want to lose our hard-won gains! πͺ Getting the tree done is taking the whole weekend: out of the box and assembled on Friday; branches arranged and lights up on Saturday; hopefully decorated on Sunday! Mitzy likes to be in the heart of the action and she doesn't mind posing for the camera either! πΆππ My Pukka Herbs advent calendar offered 'three wise mints' today. Mint is not my favourite tea but this was a nice one! (And peppermint is soothing to the gut π). I was introduced to the deliciousness of white anchovies in Croatia and was excited to remember I had some in the fridge. I love it when lunch is quick, easy, nutritious and lowcarb π In the evening the family gathered for a barbecue at my brother's to farewell my nephew on his travels to Scandinavia and Northern Europe. Going from a warm Summer night in Perth to icy adventures in the Artic Circle will be a startling change! βββ
