For the 3rd time in as many years, I’ve found I failed to fully complete any new pieces of writing for a full 2-3 weeks. The easy excuse? The short answer? Life got in the way. Day jobs are pesky things, let alone family and social commitments. ❕But the honest answer? Truth?❕ Too many ideas. So many ideas, they swarm drawing me into the blissful abyss, leaving me unsure where I want this writing to go. I feel the ante has been raised now that I have an artist, no the artist, for this story, involved and prepared to breathe life into my words. I have carried these characters so far, and now I must write some out of existence; it’s much like a grieving process, my dear friends, time to step aside for the benefit of the tale that must be told. Should I, would I be bold enough to declare I have contracted the infectious dreaded “writer’s block.”⬛️ Here’s the thing — I don’t believe writer’s block exists. To paraphrase author Neil Gaiman: “As writer’s, we’re lucky. If we’re not productive, we can blame it on ‘writer’s block,’ an ailment that doesn’t seem to exist for other professions. For instance, shoe salesmen do not get ‘shoe salesmen block.’” With that in mind — I dare quote a passage that I have pinned into the skin, across my back. 🔲 “Nothing will work unless you do.” — Maya Angelou🔳 A powerful message, thus my solution — and then one that I will soon have inked into my skin as well — from the admirable genius of Warren Ellis- “Writer’s block? I’ve heard of this. This is when a writer cannot write, yes? Then that person isn’t a writer anymore.
