Fantastic lesson this evening. Debby said we have made the most progress in a long time which is good. I had a epiphany recently about what I do (or don't do) with my body when turning left. Also it helped the penny to drop with using my outside rein to turn. I have a tendency to drop my right hand so thinking up helps that. An improvement with the contact was noted and I got some high praise too. My new homework alongside fine tuning my latest epiphany and continue to work on all that I've learnt; is to carry my upper arms right by my side, hugging close into my body. I can have my elbows a little forward if I wish as my arms are short. But that really helps me keep my forearms soft and able to vibrate and play with the rein without my arms (especially the left) dancing all over the place. We also worked on trot to halt, I mustn't use too much rein and make sure he's straight before asking. Here's a video I took at the weekend. Been trying to catch one of Deli rolling but he's always sneaky with it! #townendfellpony #fellpony #dressage #lesson #position #goodwork #lessonreport #rolling
Today was one of those rides where you feel like a uncoordinated mess which turns into a frustrating snowball of incompetence. The more I warmed up the worst I rode. Luckily Debby arrived for my lesson and helped. Taking it back to basics. Fine tuning my position and then it was starting to improve. Also found a way to improve Deli's canter transition: 10m circle at A, down three quarter line, leg yield towards the track, when at the track canter transition and 20m circle. The leg yield makes sure his inside leg is under him so then he can't throw his head up in the transition. Obviously can't do that in a test but it'll give him the idea of where we want him to be in the transition. Next comp Team Quest 17th June Prelim 17. Deli's first long arena test. I haven't done one in a while! #townendfellpony #fellpony #dressage #nativepony #schooling #lesson #lessonreport
