Thinking about how the discussion of Napoleon only losing the battle to Wellington had to do with a chance factor (the rain making the ground soggy) and Napoleon being unable to consider his plan beyond being an artillery man and getting stuck, literally and figuratively, when his supreme advantage and worldview (that artillery is superior) fails in the mud; and how that juxstaposes with Javert arrogantly believing in the virtue of the law to the point of blindness and how chance factors of fate were all that separated him and Valjean.
