How did you all become more open/chill with discussing fictive sources?

blunt answer: we've been openly plural for 15 years this november and we have just stopped giving a shit
more nuanced answer: it really helps having friends that are openly supportive of you, no matter how "weird" you are. especially if they themselves have ""unusual"" sources and are trusting us with that knowledge. we're in this together, and theyve proven in other ways that they wouldnt judge us.
being open is not always a good thing. Keter doesn't discuss their source publicly due to being from a fandom that was not... kind, to fictives. we still don't talk about our MCYT fictives publicly either asides from confirming "yeah, they exist" - people have gotten less Weird about them over the past few years, but there was a while where we felt unsafe. we boggle at younger systems (both irl age and "amount of time being a system") that are extremely open about Every Part Of Themselves because its scary, even though we used to be like that in a way more hostile environment. despite all our anxiety, people are more accepting of plurality, and especially fictives, than they were ten years ago
you do kinda just gotta go for it. you dont need to shout it from the rooftops if youre scared, but you can find community in people like you. and, hey, we'd never judge anybody for what's going on in their system. you're currently talking to an obscure mega man character with the system backstory of "reincarnated as a shapeshifter robot and wound up in this body". life is strange, and that's cool.
