Although Gill from the company who made the #chubbyhearts impressively replied to my email (first image) at 8.30am, it seems odd that she can’t answer my question as to whether her products are biodegradable or not. It’s a simple question. I understand these balloons will be used again (does that just mean during the week of this project, though?) but why on earth were they made in the first place? Unless they are biodegradable, which conveniently nobody can answer until the event is over. Apparently, @anyahindmarch was sitting in the Festival Hall and was overwhelmed at the creativity around her, in spite of all the horrible stuff that happened last year. I absolutely know what she means and have sat in the same place and thought the same thing. So she wanted to send a love letter to London celebrating our creativity and making us smile. Hence the balloons. Possibly introducing a load of new plastic into the world forever, is not a very creative way to celebrate creativity. Like I say, unless they are biodegradable. Also, I resent the implication that I am not only a miserable sod, but also insane if I question this. The twitter abuse I have taken is unbelievable. A simple, honest answer. Which is all you want, really. Please don’t respond with ‘they are going to be used again’, I have been told this a hundred times. I know they have been moved to different locations around London (therefore ‘being used again’) I will certainly be looking out for them being used again after the week is over, though. Especially as it appears the people who manufacture them need to be onsite when they are in use (above email). The article was printed in The Evening Standard, the same newspaper which had ‘end the plastic menace in London’ on its front page on 15th Jan. I know it is really hard to live a life without plastic. I am no saint, but these balloons...
