Reunion \\ lena-song
Lena flinched when River touched her — her hands were warm and she wasn’t used to affection. Her own daughter. She swallowed thickly, thought she was sure her voice would shake as she talked. “I, um… I don’t know much about them. All I know is their names and that… neither of them were fully human. My father was called the Doctor, and he was categorized as something… something called a Time Lord.” She put her free hands to the middle of her chest. Two heartbeats. For the longest time she though she was a freak, until she discovered she just wasn’t human.
Her eyes met River’s at this point, her mind reeling with hope. “My mother… was something of a Time Lord too, partly anyway. And s-she was c-called River. River Song. Just… just like you. T-That’s all Kovarian’s files told me.” Soon she found herself shaking and rambling; her mind told her to shut up but her mouth was moving like wildfire. “I don’t know their faces, I don’t know anything about them, all I know is that they were something not human and that something happened so that I couldn’t be with them. This fact scared me a lot, when I first discovered it. And now… I can’t be scared because I’m so full of hope.” She managed a smile and a hard blink to force back tears. “Hope that I’ll find them.”
River knew her cheeks were wet with tears by the time she finished talking, and if the girl, her daughter, hadn't moved herself, River would have lept up to run to her. Â She curled her arms tightly around Lena, the hug probably a little crushing, but she couldn't help it. "Shh, my darling, shh," she said, trying to soothe her as she cried, even if River was crying herself now, soft silent tears that dropped down into Lena'a hair.
"I'm so, so sorry," River repeated, kissing the top of the girl's head. Â "I should have done more. Â To keep you safe, my darling, darling girl." She let herself just cry for a moment, knowing that the pair of them were making a bit of a scene in the coffee shop, but not caring. Â She did her best to collect herself. Â "Tell me," she said gently. Â "What's been done to you. Â How old are you? Â How much of your life have I missed?"
