I Mean as much as I love the characters of this series, being involved with organized crime is not really an “oopsie” either. organized crime is harmful and bad and, like the military, it is often marginalized people without other prospects who end up joining. But that doesn't excuse bad actions individuals take supporting an organization that thrives off exploiting, manipulating, terrorizing, and hurting people. 

I oscillate between thinking that the series actually does a good job of giving a nuanced presentation of the yakuza as harmful crime organization you can never get away from once you’re in / last chance for young, poor boys without prospects / last bastion of honour in a flat, totally commercialized society / toxic authoritarian organization that sucks up your dreams and spits them out / counterpoint to hidden corruption in ‘legitimate’ institutions like the government and police / outlet for violence that is the only expression of emotion permitted in a culture of hyper-masculinity / etc

and thinking more realistically that sega is just like “hurr durrr the main characters are all 100% good actually, the tojo clan is a perfect pure princess, except when the UGLY yakuza who are bad and violent infiltrate it and mess things up”
