***WEDNESDAY REVIEW READ BELOW*** Your seven year old might struggle watching this. I know that this movie has A LOT of politics around it, some good and some bad, but mostly I will be discussing the movie and the difference between the original Mulan. First and foremost, less cute animals. We have a unique Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon motif going on, which is unique to itself, but not nearly as eye catching to my four year-old niece as it was to me. It holds true to the little I know about Chinese culture and brings up some new characters that were pretty much considered side characters in the original. I don’t know if you can tell by now, but this movie can drag for some and takes FOREVER. This really isn’t such an appropriate movie for some children under the age of ten, not because it has anything adult in it but because of its pace. Depending on your individual child, they might love it or demand to see the original afterwards. Also - no songs. You hear the songs playing and some of the words mentioned but otherwise, this movie is kind of cut and dry. According to my nephew, very dry. I personally liked how Disney kind of struggled to stay true to the legend of Mulan in this movie, while in the old one they threw pretty much everything out the window and gave us Mushu. Again, not something I have a problem with. Just something I noticed.
