I played nourishing lich for the first time in an actual tournament last night and it went surprisingly well. After my record I had a friend suggest I do a tournament report because it's a funny deck, and even though I have like 1 follower who plays any MtG here goes: Round 1, The Pile, 2-1 This was a mono white brew a friend of mine had put together with just all the value white cards and artifacts he could. Unfortunately for him not a lotof them do too much against mono black Lich. Thalia and Trinishpere were the biggest issues, but even then I managed to storm out with tendrils of agony twice. Yay Round 2, Pox(?), 0-2 Turns out aggressive discard and even a small amount of land destruction is brutal against combo. Playing all basic land at least meant I didn't let him use wasteland or give his deathrite shaman fuel, but sticking a jitte on a shaman after ripping my hand still wins games. Not sure what I should do against him, besides get a lucky turn 1 win. Round 3, Red Decks Wins, 2-0 This one was actually a guy playing his modern deck to try and get it worked out to be faster/more aggressive. He almost won both games with kiln fiend and spitfire's but I was able to combo faster and had enough discard to keep him down, plus actually gaining life with shoals, what? Round 4, Merfolk, 0-2 I had a sweet hand game one, cast lich with enough mana to avoid daze and still combo off with Zuran Orb, but he had a Force instead. Surprise. Game two he didn't know how to board but noticed the words "lose the game" next to "graveyard" so turn one relic of progenitus off of a mutavault kind of ended that fast. My only real answers to him I think would have been pact of negation in the board, or city of solitude off a lotus petal. Overall a mediocre record, but for a blind tournament with Nourishing Lich, could have been worse. I think 2 Gray Merchants are going into the main, the other stay board, I'm probably getting pack rats for it, and maybe two more phtrexian arena in the side? Plus the Pacts. Diabolic edict I think would also be super helpful. Maybe next time I'll manage to 3-1 and report again.
