My new baby, my pet leech Jane Prentiss (full name Jane Amherst Prentiss Mason). I love her already.
I told my mom I named her Jane Prentiss, and she said, “that’s not a good role model for her.”

Inspired by everyone’s favorite bisexual plague doctor (my life goals), I decided to buy a pet leech. And much to my surprise, when I opened the box, there were TWO leeches! I had to scramble to find another jar. So I am now the proud leech mama of twins.
Please allow me to introduce my children, Adelaide J. Montgomery Mason, and Julian A. Montgomery Mason. Julian is energetic and eager to stretch, dance, and say hello to people (hence the bigger jar), like his namesake, Julian Devorak. Adelaide likes to sulk, as if in bed, like her namesake, Adelaide of the Pasture.
Neither of them has fed yet. I think they’re still getting used to their new homes, and still see me sticking my fingers in their jars as something of a threat. I’m also getting used to caring for them, and I’m quite eager to continue my journey as a spooky bisexual plague doctor and a leech mom❣️
(I’ll be tagging posts with my new babies with the hashtag #leechmama, so feel free to block that if leeches squick you out. I know they’re not for everyone.)
