Teaching your dog to walk nicely on leash is something that needs to be built up. You can't expect to put a leash on your dog and them to walk nicely straight away, they might pull or not follow, which is normal initially. However there are 5 exercises that you can practice with your dog that will improve their leash walking skills, before even putting a leash on your dog.

I am not recommending this as a volunteer but rather as a public citizen of Los Angeles. I know some people have struggles with their dogs on leashes… This might be something you want to check out.
