except... this time they didn’t come. this time, the pregnancy had lasted. she was already in her third month, and she had realized, slowly, that she couldn’t keep it hidden much longer. that didn’t stop her from being wildly nervous. her hands shook as she brought two mugs of coffee to the breakfast table, setting one in front of her partner. she sat down across from them, wrapping her hands around the warm mug to calm herself. “i have something to tell you,” she began slowly, her voice already cracking. she wasn’t sure if she could make it through the entire thing without crying. actually, she knew that she couldn’t.

                    she’d been in the middle of cooking ( a late ) dinner when she got the call . a while back , mariposa had managed to connect with one of the security guards that worked at her father’s police station , which came in handy for situations like these . situations where cases , ones of the worrying sort , would come across chief diaz’s desk and his daughter would be purposefully left in the dark . it was a sketchy case — one involving a hostage situation her father was heavily involved in — and the sound of the guard’s voice had sent mariposa running down to the station in record time. when she arrived, however, her father was nowhere to be found. a soft, angry sigh passed her lips as she made her way over to the next best thing in the dark bullpen: the squad’s troublesome detective and her father’s coworker.  ‘  evening, detective fletcher. my father around ?  ’
