A bio/backstory for my player characters in ff14. In reality, these two started as blank slates in the game. they had no character or backstory to speak of. I then used these two as a template for my original characters, Vero and Edel. As time went on, i projected this roundabout origin back onto my player characters in the form of a new story, which would turn them from blank slates into something more abstract in concept.
In a certain reality lived countless beings throughout innumerable stars, much like our own. In one such place, conflict was a thing of its past. Instead, the populace created and enjoyed theatrical spectacle the likes which have never been seen before. They surveyed their neighboring worlds, gaining inspiration and committing each story witnessed to script. A doll-like construct was created to raise the potential of more complex and risky performances. All was well for this automaton; it danced through the stage, broke blades with foes and spoke beautiful prose. A simpler and more somber play was eventually assigned to the doll, depicting a victorious villains musings as she awaited the end of all things. However, it had gone mad during the performance. Some say it believed itself to be the character depicted in the tale, others assume it was possessed by the vengeful spirit of the true being. Whatever the case, the doll was forced to shut down and was summarily tucked away. The doll had always sought perfection in every performance, and unbeknownst to their creators, it had been biding their time to deliver a proper act...
Two more dolls were created, each whose potential was overall diminished compared to their predecessor. Or rather, said potential was split between them for the sake of stability. They too followed in the footsteps of the finest performing automaton. As they never saw any signs of corruption, they were praised by their creators and even envied by other performers. Yes, envied especially by It. At a loss as to what other tale to insert the new duo into, the creators decided to let the dolls roam through the nearby stages in the meantime. After this brief venture, the dolls -in a bizarre turn of events- drifted into what most beings would call "sleep" and subsequently "dreaming." The dolls saw the story of...
[In an era preceding a long-awaited peace, two people had crossed paths with each other: One was nobility who had committed self-exile from his kingdom, tired of their practices and beliefs. The other was a voyager from a nomadic society, who had recently left on their own due to a thirst for adventure. Together they traveled across the lands and shared many memories together. The day came when the noble's past would catch up to him. Blades clash and bodies fall. And a mystery is uncovered that would determine not just the fate of the duo, but both of their homelands. At the center of the conflict was a pair of beings named ▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮ who tore into this plane. The pairs aim was to reverse and disrupt the energies flowing through the land, and use them for their own means to conquer the land. Through great struggle and the timely intervention of a mysterious magus dubbed "The Heritor of Azure," that great evil was banished. The fate of both the Noble and Voyager remained unknown thereafter.]
There were no records of such a story in the worlds archives, nor would there have been a reason for the dolls to develop a human-like resting protocol. None could figure out how or why this all had happened, but they trusted that it was fate that brought this story to the duo. Thus it was fate that would allow them to act as these otherworldly characters.
One day, the original doll had returned for a grand and villainous reprisal. Tearing through the skies and razing the lands, she recreated the very apocalypse that would befit her original script’s musings when all was said and done. There was nothing the duo could do, for their might did not match that of the great evil before them. The creators had devised a plan, absolutely abstract in concept and yet so simple: They hoped that by sending the dolls far away to another world, it would let them experience their own tale, free of roles and commands. Thus would their capability one day exceed that of the original doll whose experiences were only dictated by script.
"Wouldnt our beloved creations need names? It would not do good to leave them bereft of identity!" "Then, let these two decide, i have a feeling they already know..."
They had taken the form of that duo, opting to go by their surnames out of respect for them.
"Wrenna, Lazulia...
What will you see that we shall not? What stories will you have a hand in, which we cannot commit to memory?"
Fate would see them land on that star, so full of hope and adversity. They walked these new lands, followed in the footsteps of its greatest adventurers and took in the many unique sights it had to offer. all the while, they dreamed just as they had before, but these were no ordinary dreams. Nay, these were memories. Memories gained from the ambient length and strength of the world’s denizens. Visions of people they would never meet, things they would never see. They took these dreams to heart, committing the lessons learned and the people met to memory instead of script.
One day they had decided, for all that theyve seen, for all that was lost and loved, they had finally felt ready to see the end of their tale through. They reached out to the abyss that yet plagued them, and found theirselves right at the original dolls precipice. The doll cast aside its origin and decided it truly was...
-Fenizehr, Who Pierced Space and Shattered Time-
Their newfound hopes and an incomprehensible darkness. The battle seemed to last both an age and an instant, but fate would see Wrenna and Lazulia through as the victors. Upon defeat, Fenizehr collapsed and reverted back to her basic form. Seeing such a sight, Lazulia thought about something.
"were we to bind her... or siphon her power, maybe even distribute a balance, would we perhaps reach higher potential?” asked Lazulia. “sounds.. dangerous” replied a despondent Wrenna. Though they eventually reached a consensus: If there was a way to keep the three together and reach some form of stability, they would perhaps see a close to the history of these creations and the dangers that could follow. Wrenna and Lazulia each reached a hand out toward the original doll. If their potential was "halved" for fear of Fenizehrs vengeance, then that "half" could be returned to them for the sake of becoming protectors of not just their legacy, but also the world they have come to call home. The doll that called itself "Fenizehr" had no choice but to comply, Wrenna and Lazulia were now the only beings from that world that had any semblance of authority over her.
The original doll, keeping the name “fenizehr” as a form of atonement, integrated with the duo. In sharing her power, the duo felt every ambition Fenizehr dared to achieve, and in turn she had felt every hope Wrenna and Lazulia had clung to.
WRENNA
"We had seen much and more than any script could dare recreate..."
LAZULIA
"The people we would lend our hands to, and the trails we blazed."
WRENNA
"The length and strength of their feelings would see us through..."
WRENNA & LAZULIA
"To the end."
FENIZEHR
"Our end."
chara: [bites into a kitkat the wrong way] asriel: WHY chara: chaotic evil
Chara has a secret stash of chocolate in their closet and they’ve taken a bite out of every single one just in case someone else should have the bright idea of stealing their things
Asriel is mostly deterred because Chara bites into them wrong and it looks bad
(also ‘eyyy, nice choice in icon! for anyone else reading: yes, they did ask permission first)
