I have those double compartment trays that hang off the side of the cage for my burds. Ive been doing seed/water in them, but they seem to always get so much seed in the water or water in the seed. Is it OK to change to water/water and seed/seed?
Oh yeah definitely, I hate those things. With cages the best layout is to have to water on one side of the cage and the seed on the other and to have water slightly higher than the seed. This way seed doesn’t fall in to the water and they’re far enough away that water doesn’t splash in to the seed and cause moulding issues or bacterial buildup.
When you do change the dishes be sure to show the birds how things are laid out now or else they could end up dehydrated or starving, despite being in the same cage birds can get pretty lost when their food isn’t where they remember it being. Take the time to pop them on to the new locations, tap the water to show them it’s there and put a little millet hanging over the edge of the new seed location to help them along. When making changes with their food it’s important to have a day or two where you can supervise them with the change just to be certain they know exactly where everything is now.
