The #laxeywheel, otherwise known of as Lady Isabella, is a huge #victorian era #waterwheel that served as a pump to siphon water from nearby mines once in operation on the #isleofman. With a wheel more than 70 ft in diameter, and the ability to siphon more than 1000 liters of water per minute this machine is a without a doubt a feat of #engineering. Laxey Wheel was built in 1854 to pump water from the mineshafts and named "Lady Isabella" after the wife of Lieutenant Governor Charles Hope who was the island's governor at that time.
