Part Two- Pacts and Gemstones

Lava lamps have the ability to take on a gemstone form. This small form, containing their conscience and innate abilities, can be picked up and utilized by another lava lamp. When a lava lamp gives consent for another lava lamp to use its gem form, it’s called a gem pact. The lava lamp who uses this gemstone will gain another tail, think quicker (shared conscience), have tougher skin, gain horn modifications, and can use the gemstone’s voice. The greatest strengths of both lava lamps are combined. That being said, the lava lamp who uses the gemstone must be within 10ft of it to hone its abilities. Otherwise, all advantages gained from the gemstone will be nullified. As a result, it’s common for the gemstone in use to become wear.

It’s understandable why a lava lamp would want to use a gemstone, but why would a lava lamp choose to become a gemstone? For one, a gemstone is much easier to transport. It’s lightweight and compact. Many use this form to sneak into places they ought not be, or to be carried to a safer area. Gemstones are harder to keep track of than a living body, so if a lava lamp wanted to go MIA, turning into a gem is a viable option. Their gemstone form also grants them immunity. Many lava lamps who have found their loved ones on the brink of death keep them in their gemstone forms, holding them close until they find a way to treat them in the future. As one could imagine, this has led to familial hoardings of generational piles of gemstones. Therefore, many lava lamps view their gemstone forms as sacred. Most lava lamps will don gemstones out of respect, yet not activate the abilities.

Despite how much lava lamp society reveres gemstones, there still exists those who want to take advantage of gems. Power-hungry individuals thirst for the benefits offered by pacts. Some have gone as low as forcing others into debt and taking them as a gemstone for payment. These diabolical lamps will often end up with more than one gemstone. However, there’s a price to be paid for such greed. The more gemstones that a lava lamp is actively using, the more strain will be forced upon its body. Lava lamp DNA can only take up to two gem pacts before undergoing severe body warpage. Sometimes the damage is so intense that it persists after a lava lamp stops utilizing the gemstones, permanently ruining their image…

Part One

Lava lamp demons are a species that roam the underworld, otherwise known as Hearth. Comprised of hot lava and a wax-like substance, The insides of a lava lamp demon slosh inside their flexible, yet glass-like skin. While it isn’t particularly a problem in the heat of Hearth, a lamp’s glass skin can fracture if hit with intense force. These lamps sport long ears, tails that come to a triangular point, and horns of varying sizes. Their eyes and mouths are white against their base hue. Typically, lava lamps will have a hair color between black and white, but exceptions occur. The average lamp is 1ft taller than the average human.

Lava lamp demons come in many different colors, with numerous variations. Wax color is dependent on genetics and health.

Ex. A lava lamp who has a yellow parent and a pink parent may have a yellow base color and pinkish-orange wax.

Ex. The darker and less-saturated a lava lamp’s wax is, the sicker the lamp is.

That being said, a lamp can be born with less saturated colors, and it does not necessarily mean they are sick. This is why the lamps must pay close attention to base color and report any fluctuations in saturation and lightness to their local health professional.

A lava lamp’s face is 2D. To eat food, a lamp simply has to open its real mouth as shown above! Lava lamps tend to eat objects that are combustible in order to absorb more energy. Wood and oil-rich foods are fan favorites for lava lamps and are considered healthy. Plastic generally does not sit well with most lamps and can present health problems if consumed in mass, so it’s generally avoided.

A lava lamp’s tail is prehensile, yet many need practice in order to consider it a third hand. It’s basically like learning to write with your foot.
