I just read your "kravitz and taako meet at a (college?) party and taako's super drunk" fic and loved it. Did you ever/could you ever write a follow up to that scene?
â¨Like My Work? Buy Me a Coffee!â¨
Part 1
âHmmmmâŚâ
Taako absentmindedly ran his hand through his hair that hung below him as he dangled upside down halfway off of his bed.
âHmmmmmmâŚâ
He shook out his hair and sat up, imagining that he probably looked quite glamorous as his hair fell forward to frame his face. He ruffled it a couple times for good measure (despite the fact that no one could see him), then tapped his phone against his chin a couple times. He unlocked it to look at his contacts page. For a few moments, his thumb hovered over the screen in hesitation.
âUghhh!â He groaned and fell back so he was hanging upside down again.Â
It had been three days since heâd gotten sloppily drunk at a party and thrown himself at that (extremely sexy) classmate of his. Three days since Magnus had thoroughly embarrassed him even more than heâd embarrassed himself. Three days since Kravitz had given him his number.
I hope youâll text me sometime. When youâre sober, that is.
Taako was most definitely sober now. And tomorrow he had his class with Kravitz. It would be a bit awkward to see him in person again without texting him.Â
But he just couldnât fucking do it.
What was he supposed to say? Hey, itâs me. Chaâboy. You know, the guy who basically assaulted you while drunk? SoooâŚyou wanna go out sometime?
As if.
He groaned again - loudly - and sat back up. Heâd spent the past three hours trying to figure out how to text Kravitz. Three hours. Thatâs more time than he spent on anything other than cooking, primping, or studying (though he wouldnât admit that last one to anyone but his sister). Three hours of fruitless brainstorming. He absentmindedly ruffled his hair and flipped it a couple times as he glanced around his room, searching for ideas.
His eyes landed on where Kravitzâs jacket was hanging off the back of his chair. Taako grinned as an idea formed in his head.
Kravitz was beginning to regret giving Taako his number.
Three days and zero texts. Either Taako wasnât as into him as it seemed, or he was too embarrassed about his behavior that night to contact him. But he didnât really seem like the kind of guy to let embarrassment get in his way.Â
He nervously fidgeted with his pencil, rapidly tapping it against his textbook. Heâd been trying to study the entire weekend but was too distracted. Why did he give Taako his number? Why didnât he ask for Taakoâs number instead?
No, that wouldnât have worked. He never wouldâve gotten up the nerve to text him. But at least then he wouldâve known that the lack of communication was his own fault. This was just agony.Â
His thoughts were interrupted by his phone vibrating with a notification. He grabbed it - a bit too eagerly - and saw that heâd gotten a text from an unknown number. Oh gods. Kravitz took a breath before opening the text.
He spluttered a bit when he saw what Taako had sent him. It was a photo - nothing racy, but quite the glamour shot - of Taako wearing the jacket that Kravitz had loaned him. He was biting his lip and had one hand running through his hair in a suggestive pose. Underneath the picture, two more messages appeared.
Unknown Number:Â i think ill be keeping this bad boy for myselfUnknown Number:Â looks pretty good on me dontcha think?
Kravitz needed a few moments to process. How the hell was he supposed to respond to that? As he tried to gather his thoughts, he took the time to add Taakoâs number to his contacts. After a few more moments, he came up with what he hoped was a sufficient reply. Gods, he hated flirting over text.
Me: I think youâd look better out of it
It only took a couple moments for Taako to reply, but it was quite possibly the longest few moments of Kravitzâs existence.
Taako: ooo spicy boyTaako: at least buy me dinner first   Me: Is that all it takes?
Kravitz grimaced with immediate regret as he waited for a response.
Taako:Â listenTaako:Â you already saw me at that partyTaako:Â i think any semblance of integrity is already out the window my dude
Kravitz chuckled - nervously - and tapped his fingers on the table as he tried to gather up the courage to send another message.
Taako sat in his bed as he waited for Kravitzâs next text. He pulled his knees up to his chest, hugging the jacket tighter around himself . It was just because it was a really comfy jacket. And he wanted to make sure it smelled like him when he gave it back to Kravitz. It definitely had nothing to do with the crush he had on that guy.
Krav Boy:Â So do you want to go to dinner, then?
Taako chewed on his lip. He supposed it was his fault for making that dinner joke, but he didnât know how to tell Kravitz that he didnât really like any of the restaurants nearby.Â
Me:  ehhh dinners too basicKrav Boy: Do you have better ideas for a second date?      Me: SECOND date????Krav Boy: Yeah, the party was our first date      Me: you got a pretty fuckin wild idea of what constitutes a date my dudeKrav Boy: How so?Krav Boy: We danced, we had a nice conversation, and I dropped you off at your place      Me: i think you mean      Me: i threw myself at you      Me: i overshared about my dumb problems      Me: my ââââfriendââââ exposed me      Me: and then you nagged me to drink waterKrav Boy: Forgive me. I wonât refer to it as a date, then
Taako sighed. Who the fuck texted so formally? He was going to have to work with him on that if they ever got past a second date.
Well, depending on what classified as a date.
Me: you hear about that new place that opened up on campus?Krav Boy: Youâll have to be a bit more specific than thatKrav Boy: I donât really keep up with campus activities
Taako rolled his eyes. Hopeless.
Me: its one of those wine and pottery placesKrav Boy: Oh, Iâve never been to one of those. Whatâs it called?      Me: the chug n squeeze
There were a few moments of silence where there wasnât even any indication that Kravitz was typing out a response. Taako was starting to wonder what was going on when his phone rang.Â
âHullo?â He asked, sitting up straight.
âThe Chug N Squeeze?!â Kravitzâs voice came out in an undignified wheeze of laughter.
Taako couldnât help but chuckle at the sound of his laugh. âYeah, my dude.â
âI thought you were pulling my leg but I looked it up and itâs real.â
âDuh, I wouldnât lie to you.â Taako twirled his hair around one finger. âWhyâd you call me?â
âI, uh, Iâm not a big fan of texting,â Kravitz said. âAnd Iâm not too good at it.â
Yeah, no kidding. âAh.â
âSo would you like to go to the Chug N Squeeze with me this Friday?â
Ugh. Friday was so far away. But dates on weekdays were never fun. And besides, heâd get to see Kravitz in class before then. âHell yeah, homie.â
There was a pause where Taako could practically feel Kravitz grin. âItâs a date.â
âSounds good. Oh,â Taako hesitated, taking a millisecond to have an inner debate about what he wanted to say next. âMake sure to save me a seat tomorrow, kay? You always get to class way before me.â
Couldnât text or talk, it seemed. Taako smiled to himself. âAlright, see ya then.â
âSee you.â
Taako hung up just as Lup burst into his room.
âHey if I took a skeleton an- What the fuck are you wearing?!â She stopped dead in her tracks with an outright offended look on her face.
Taako felt his face grow hot as he grasped for a response. Kravitzâs jacket was very nice, but it was nowhere near Taakoâs style.
âUhhhh stole it from a guy,â He responded, trying his best to sound nonchalant about it.
She crossed her arms, very clearly not believing it. âAnd what possessed you to steal that jacket?â
Taako smacked his lips and opened his mouth to answer. âIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiâŚâ He trailed off, blinking repeatedly as he failed his Deception roll. âDonât know.â
Her ears perked up as if sheâd just realized something. âDid someone give it to you?â She asked, a devious grin on her face.
âNo.â
âLiar!â She took a running leap for his bed, landing forcefully enough to make Taako grab the mattress in an attempt to avoid being flung off his own bed. She pulled her legs under herself to sit cross-legged and clasped her hands together, resting her chin on them to give Taako her undivided attention. âTell me his name!â
Taako wished with every inch of his soul that he could stop his cheeks from burning. âNo. fuck you.â
âTaakooooooooo,â Her ears drooped and she pouted. âPleeeeeeeaaaaasssse!â
âGet out of my room.â
âIâm not leaving till you tell meeeeeeee.â
Taako scowled at his sister, who stared right back with an indignant look. With each passing second, he could feel his willpower being worn down. Fuck.
âFine! Gods, you win!â He threw his hands in the air and refused to meet Lupâs triumphant gaze. âAsshole. His nameâs Kravitz.â
Lup frowned in thought and Taako grimaced as he waited for her to figure out where sheâd heard that name before.
Her eyes suddenly widened in realization. âIs that the guy you said you would give-â
âSHUT UP!â
She leaned forward and excitedly drummed on Taakoâs knees. âYou got a date with that guy?! How? I thought he was, like, way out of your league!â
âOkay, first of all, rude,â Taakoâs embarrassment was pushed to the side as he sat up to argue with his sister. âSecond of all, I won him over with my charms.â
âSo you made out with him while drunk?â
âNo!â He said indignantly, crossing his arms.
Lup laughed. âThen whatâd you do?â
âIâŚâ Taako trailed off, knowing full well that he did not want to recount the events of that night to his sister. âI mean I did. Sorta. He wouldnât let me.â
âOoo, a gentleman?â She sat up straight and put on a posh accent. âThis fellow sounds like quite the catch. How does he plan to court you, my dear brother?â

I don't have a specific favourite fic, every time you write Angus it makes me so happy. If I can prompt, I'd love to see Angus coming home to Taako & Kravitz after walking back from a case mid blizzard. Just too happy with solving the puzzle to realise he's soaked, frozen and half delirious from the flu. (Sorry if that's too specific!)
MY BOY!!! MY BOY!!!!!!
Thank you I love writing Angus!!
(Also this came out more dramatic than I intended when I started oops)
The wind sliced at Angus as he ran home, the ecstatic heat and energy from a freshly-solved case preventing him from feeling the cold of the blizzard. Snow clung to his curls and melted just enough to plaster them to his face as the wind swirled around him, and it somehow managed to soak the many layers of clothes Taako had dressed him in before heâd left. He vaguely registered the crackle of his stone of farspeech, but decided to ignore it. He was almost home, anyway.
Manners as well as knowledge of Taakoâs stance on muddy footprints in the house were all that prevented him from charging through the house to find them as soon as he got in. He stopped in his tracks in the mudroom and kicked off his boots as he shouted out that he was home.
Two pairs of footsteps rushed towards him as he struggled to remove his outermost coat, the intricate buttons getting the best of him until he realized it would be easier if he took off his gloves first.
Taako and Kravitz appeared at the top of the short flight of stairs, and Angus grinned up at them, his face flushed from both the cold weather and excitement.
âJeez, kid, you had us worried,â Taako leaned dramatically against the wall, though relief was obvious on his face. âI thought you were stranded out there.â
âAngus, youâre soaked!â Kravitz looked significantly more concerned than his husband.
âS-sorry!â Angus chirped, not sounding apologetic at all as he shucked off two layers of warmth and immediately shivered. It didnât matter, though, he had too much to tell them. âI-I wouldâve answered your c-call, but I was almost h-home, anyway.â
He continued as he removed a third, thinner jacket, ignoring the chill that ran down his spine. âIt was s-so exciting, though! I thought that something was off about the c-crime scene, but it wasnât until I m-met up with the C-Count to talk about the v-v-victim that I realized what was wrong! It was-â He stopped suddenly and he shivered more violently for a moment, but he quickly recovered and breezed over it as if it hadnât happened, not noticing Kravitz and Taako exchange looks. âIt was the j-j-jade earrings! If they were her most p-prized p-possession, why were they n-nowhere to be f-f-found? And then I-â
Angus stopped, suddenly feeling dizzy. He stuck out a hand to lean against the wall for support. Kravitz rushed down the steps with Taako on his heels, quickly grabbing Angus by the underarms to keep him upright.
âBy the grace of my lady, youâre freezing!â Kravitz exclaimed, turning to Taako for confirmation. âHeâs freezing, right?â
âShit, yeah,â Taako muttered distractedly, his expression focused as he pressed the back of his hands first to Angusâs forehead, then neck, then arms to double-check his temperature. He cupped Angusâs face in his hands and searched his expression intently, noting the flush on his cheeks and the lack of focus in his eyes, but no visible discoloration of his lips or nose. A look of panic crossed his face and he quickly sat Angus down on the stairs and checked over his fingers before stripping off his socks and checking his toes while Kravitz looked on with worry. He sighed with relief before standing up.
âKrav, can you come pick him up?â Taako asked, his sudden seriousness preventing Kravitz from asking any questions. âGently.â
Kravitz did as told and picked up Angus, who instinctively wrapped his arms and legs around him the way he always did. Taako led him through the house towards Angusâs room, talking the whole time.
âHe doesnât have frostbite - thank the gods - but heâs got hypothermia. I need you to get him out of those clothes and into something warm and dry. Wrap a towel around his head or something to dry his hair, but do not rub him, mmkay? That can cause cardiac arrest.â
Kravitz swallowed down the feeling of panic that arose at the words âcardiac arrestâ and tried to listen so he could follow Taakoâs instructions. Mortal conditions and diseases werenât exactly in his wheelhouse, which Taako must have been aware of based on how heâd immediately taken charge. But Kravitz had rarely ever seen him so serious about something, which didnât help his nerves.
Taako continued. âPut him in bed and cover him with blankets. Try not to move him too much. Monitor his breathing. Iâm gonna make some hot chocolate and get a warm compress.â
Kravitz nodded silently, but his panic must have been evident on his face because Taako stopped and reached up to cup a hand around Kravitzâs face. But there was a lack of the usual gentleness in his face that was replaced by focus, and Kravitz could tell that there were a million thoughts running through Taakoâs head right now.
âHeâs gonna be alright, Krav. Itâs mild. Just do what I said.â He turned back down the hallway without another word.
Kravitz did his best to focus on Taakoâs instructions and not on how worried he was. He gently lowered Angus down on the desk chair in his room and went to grab a towel and one of Angusâs warmer pajama sets - as well as a pair of socks. As he stripped the layers of sweaters and shirts off of him, he vaguely recalled the memory from just this morning of Taako refusing to let Angus leave the house without all of these clothes on. Fat lot of good that had done him; each layer was soaked through.
He took the towel and - remembering not to rub him - gently patted at Angusâs bare chest and arms and back to remove any remaining moisture before putting on his pajama shirt.Â
Angus groaned and leaned forward, resting his head on Kravitzâs shoulder, who had to push him off so he could finish changing him. Once Angus was out of his wet clothes and in his pajamas, Kravitz carefully lifted him again and put him in bed, covering him with his blanket before taking a smaller towel and wrapping it around his hair to soak up some of the moisture. He moved to his closet to get the many other blankets he had (which were all courtesy of Taako and his love of blankets) and had just finished covering him with the last one when Taako reappeared with a mug of hot chocolate and two warm compresses.
Taako silently placed the mug on his nightstand and sat on the edge of the bed, placing one of the compresses on Angusâs forehead. Angus, who had seemed almost asleep, slowly opened his eyes to stare at him.
âWhatâs shakinâ, boychik?â Taako asked, though his gentle tone didnât quite match his joking words.
Angusâs brow creased and he opened his mouth as if to say something, but gave up and closed it.
âDonât push yourself too hard,â Taako muttered, lifting the blankets just enough to place the other compress on Angusâs chest. âDo you think you can sit up enough to drink some of this?â He asked, taking the mug and moving it almost tauntingly in front of the boyâs face. âSecret recipeee,â His voice took on a sing-song tone.
Angus moved as if to sit himself up, but Taako quickly placed a hand behind his back to help him. He managed to down a few sips before he had to give up and lay back down. His eyelids fluttered and he quickly fell asleep.
Kravitz moved forward and placed a hand on Taakoâs shoulder, but his husband didnât look up at him. He leaned so that he could follow Taakoâs gaze to the steady rise and fall of Angusâs chest. He was watching his breathing.
After a few moments of making sure that Angus was just asleep and nothing worse, Taako put the mug back on the nightstand and let out a sigh.
âWas it you or Lup?â Kravitz asked. Taako was silent for a few moments.
âMe,â He finally said. He laced his fingers together and lifted his arms above his head in a stretch, then dropped them with a sigh. âIt was our first winter without a home. Lupâs fires kept us warm most of the time, butâŚâ He trailed off and finally turned to look at his husband with a smirk. âI was a pretty reckless kid. And I had it worse than what Angoâs got. Luckily, though, I had a sister who was smarter than me. Donât ever tell her I said that.â
Kravitz smiled, glad to see Taakoâs humor returning.
âAnd during our century, we visited a surprising amount of ice worlds. Like, way more than youâd expect. I think everyone died of exposure at least once. Lemme tell you, as annoying as Merle is, spending a cycle on a frozen wasteland without our healer was the worst. As Iâm sure you know from being with chaâboy, elves tend to run hotter than most other species, so Lup and I were less at risk and were in charge of taking care of everyone else when they did stupid stuff outside. Usually Magnus.â
Kravitz chuckled and wrapped his arms around Taako from behind, leaning down to rest his chin on the top of his head. âSo heâs gonna be alright?â
âYeah, heâll be fine,â Taako waved a hand dismissively as if that would erase how concerned heâd been earlier. âHe just needs some rest and heat. And a fuckinâ lecture about what âinclement weatherâ means.â
âOh yeah?â Kravitz asked, lifting his head. âAnd just who is going to give him that lecture?â
Taako was silent, but his answer was clear.
âFat chance,â Kravitz said. âYou know I hate when you make me bad cop.â
âHow else am I supposed to be the favorite parent?â
âYou already cook all his favorite meals,â Kravitz argued. âAll Iâve got on my side are his cello lessons.â
âThat reminds me, we need to cancel his cello lessons.â
Kravitz opened his mouth to make a retort, but Angus shifted in his bed, rolling over on his side and distracting the two from their non-serious argument. The compress fell off his forehead and onto the pillow, and Taako muttered to himself as he readjusted it so that it was at least on the side of his head.
âSo-called genius detective doesnât even know how to sleep,â Was part of what he muttered, but the rest was too quiet for Kravitz to hear. He moved a hand to Angusâs neck to feel for his temperature again, then hesitated before climbing over him on the bed and slipping under the covers, pulling Angus closer and wrapping himself around him almost protectively.
When he noticed Kravitzâs questioning look, he grumbled, âHeâs still too cold,â before flopping his head on the pillow and squeezing his eyes shut as if to fend off any response from his husband.Â
Kravitz smiled, knowing that even on his warmest days he was still too cool for that kind of job. He picked up the pile of wet clothes off the ground and left to throw them in the washer and turn it on, then returned to Angusâs room, where he found that Taako had already fallen asleep. Not knowing what else to do with himself, Kravitz sat down in Angusâs desk chair and kept an eye on them while they slept.
Iâve been super into taakitz college AU, could you write them meeting for the first time, like humping into each other at a party or something like that? â¤ď¸â¤ď¸
Anon Iâm fucking DYING did you mean to say âhumpingâ or âbumpingâ bc Iâm???? losing my goddamn MIND akdsknksljkÂ
I love this and now I gotta write both
Kravitz hated parties. He didnât even know why he kept going to them. Maybe it was the idea of putting off schoolwork for another night. Maybe it was the free alcohol. Or maybe it was the hesitant promise of meeting someone new and exciting, of having a good time.
But that never happened. No, instead it always ended up the same way. Him being too self-conscious to get any further gone than tipsy while everyone around him got plastered. On the dance floor, people clung to each other in the darkness and the heat and the music that was so loud it was practically suffocating. He never asked anyone to dance. Occasionally, girls emboldened by alcohol would approach him, but he simply refused, not bothering to explain that they werenât exactly his type.
It got to the point - the way it always did - where Kravitz felt like if he spent another second here he would suffocate. He drained the last of his drink and threw the cup aside, preparing himself to make his way across the dance floor since it was the only way to get to the exit.
He started pushing his way through the throng of people, not even bothering to excuse himself because he knew they would forget within seconds. He was nearly out of the sea of people when he felt warm arms wrap around his neck and an even warmer body press up against his side. Flustered and surprised, he looked down and immediately felt a blush rise to his face when he recognized Taako.
Kravitz didnât know him, per se. They were in the same large lecture class of more than a hundred students, and under normal circumstances someone from that class wouldâve been insignificant to him.
Except that Taako had a veryâŚdistinctive look. He always arrived to class dressed like he was a grown version of a Disney Channel character, with questionable layers of clothing and odd accessories that somehow worked, probably just because it was him. He tended to sleep through class, only waking up when the professor would notice his snoozing and ask him a question about the material (because she was that kind of professor). Every single time, Taako answered the question perfectly and then almost immediately went back to sleep. Kravitz often wondered why he even bothered to show up at all, and was certain that Taako didnât even know he existed.
How Taako had been at this party this long without Kravitzâs knowledge was a mystery. But that question was pushed out of his mind because right now Taako was very drunk andâŚwellâŚgrinding against his leg.
Kravitz froze, unsure how to react as Taako swayed and ran his hands over him, occasionally flipping his half-undone braid over his shoulder before pressing closer to him. Panicking, Kravitz took Taakoâs hands and pried them off of him, only to have them return as soon as he tried to move away. He needed to get some air now, so he quickly moved away and off the dance floor, vaguely registering that Taako was still clinging to him.
They got to the door and Kravitz turned back to try to unstick Taako from him again, only for him to groan and pout, walking his fingers up Kravitzâs chest.
âWhaâs wrong, handsome?â Taakoâs voice was barely loud enough to be heard over the music. âDunno how to dance?â He leaned in closer, his breath hot in Kravitzâs ear. âWhy donâ we go back tâ my place andâll teach ya?â
Kravitz swallowed dryly, his face burning. âYouâre drunk,â He argued back loudly.
Taakoâs pout deepened. âAnd youâre no fun. Iâve-Iâve seen you,â He slurred, swaying and using Kravitz to stay upright. âYouâre the guy who stares ât me in class. Youâre lucky youâre fuckinââŚhot.â
Kravitz hadnât thought his face could heat up anymore than it was, but he was proven wrong. âI donât-â
âBut if you,â Taako interrupted, jabbing a finger to Kravitzâs chest. âDontâ wanna fuck me,â He pointed to himself. âThen Iâll jusâ find someone else.â He stood up a bit straighter and turned away.
âWhoa, whoa, whoa.â Kravitz grabbed Taako by the wrist. âI donât think thatâs the best idea.â Taako was definitely not in a good state to be making those kinds of decisions.Â
Taako willingly let himself be pulled back, overdoing it and pressing himself against Kravitzâs chest. He smirked up at him. âHmm, change your mind?â
Kravitz looked around, feeling the crowd and the music start to overwhelm him again. âWhy donât we step outside?â He asked and, not waiting for an answer, opened the door and guided Taako out of the house.
It was a cool fall evening and the wind was extremely refreshing after the humidity of the party. Kravitz felt himself start to relax almost immediately while Taako shivered, instinctively pressing against him for warmth only to pull away again.
âJeez, homie, youâre fugginâ freezing,â He looked Kravitz up and down. âWhat are you?â
âKind of a rude way to ask that,â Kravitz dodged the question as he led Taako to the steps and sat them both down on the edge. He took off his jacket and put it around Taakoâs shoulders, who immediately took it and pulled it tighter around him. Kravitz took out his phone and ordered an Uber.
âThought you were a human,â Taako muttered as he leaned his head on Kravitzâs shoulder. Kravitz didnât bother pointing out that most humans didnât have dark red eyes. The breeze picked up and he saw Taakoâs free ear twitch a bit in reaction.Â
âYou sure you donât wanna fuck?â Taako spoke up again.
Kravitz snorted. âMaybe some other time. As long as youâre sober and still want to.â
âPfft.â Taako lifted his head, his unfocused eyes somewhat trained to Kravitzâs face. âIâve been wanting to fuck you since the first day of class, my dude,â He said, prompting Kravitz to blush again.
Taakoâs eyes suddenly narrowed and he stared at Kravitz more intently. He leaned forward as if intending to kiss him, but Kravitz leaned back, pressing a hand to Taakoâs chest to stop him.
âAgain,â Kravitz said, trying to stay composed as he pushed Taako into an upright position and sat back up. âYouâre drunk.â
Taako scoffed. âCourse I decide to go after a gentleman,â He grumbled. âAnd I thought today couldnât get any worse.â
âWhat do you mean?â
Taako eyed him warily. âI donât owe you my life story, kemosabe.â
Kravitz laughed nervously. âSorry, didnât mean to pry.â
âUgh,â Taako leaned his head against Kravitzâs shoulder again. âThere you go being nice again. Just like my sisterâs stupid boyfriend. Sheâs been in love with the guy for years. Years. Who the fuck waits that long before making a move? Itâs likeâŚwho are you and what have you done with my sister, yanno?â
Kravitz did not know. He made a noncommittal noise.
âAnyway Iâve never met the guy before and she refused to show me any pictures of him. But theyâre dating now and I met him and?â His pitch rose like he was asking a question and he lifted his head again to look at Kravitz. âHeâs a fugginâ nerd. He wears jeans like, every day. Blue jeans. Heâs gonna make her like, start caring about school or somethinâ. Turn her into a nerd too so sheâs not fun anymore. My sisterâs dating a nerd, Krav. Can you believe that?â
You know my name? Kravitz wanted to ask, feeling a strange warmth in his chest. Instead, he shrugged. âIâve never met your sister, but if sheâs anything like you, I doubt thatâll happen,â He chuckled. âAnd besides, as long as heâs a good person and cares about her, does it matter?â
Taako narrowed his eyes at him and was silent for a few moments. âYouâre a nerd, too, arenât you?â
Kravitz laughed nervously. âThatâs-â
Taako interrupted him with a groan. âGods, what is this, karma or something? Of course Iâve got a crush on a nerd, too.â
âIâm not- You have a crush on me?â Kravitz asked, struggling to process what Taako had said.
âI called you hot, didnât I?â Was his only response, as if that was enough of an explanation.
Kravitz was trying to find something to say when a car pulled up a little ways away and he got his Uber notification. âCâmon,â He grunted as he stood up and pulled Taako up with him.Â
They got into the car with some trouble from an off-balance Taako. The driver was a larger man who wasnât paying much attention to them. âReady to go?â He asked.
âUm, if itâs not too much trouble, could we make another stop before you take me to my place?â Kravitz asked, untangling Taakoâs arms from around him.
âSure thing, buddy,â The man answered, taking his phone off of its stand and preparing to put in a new address. âWhere to?â
âUh,â Kravitz turned to Taako, who was staring with intent confusion at the seat belt that he was holding in his hand, not having buckled up yet. âWhere do you live?â
âWherever you want me to, sweet cheeks,â Taako responded, doing his best to give Kravitz a sexy glance through half-lidded eyes that just ended up looking comical.
Hearing his voice, the driver turned around. âTaako?â
Taakoâs face lit up. âMags! Fancy meetinâ you here!â
âYou two know each other?â Kravitz asked, leaning over to help Taako buckle in.
âYeah, weâre friends,â The man explained, sounding a bit irritated now. âDonât worry, I know where he lives. Iâm Magnus, by the way.â He shifted gears and started driving. âYou one of Taakoâs conquests? Youâre not taking advantage of my boy, are you?â
Kravitz felt his face heat up again as he finished buckling Taako up, very aware of his hot breath on his neck. He sat back in his seat. âN-No, Iâm not. We ran into each other at that party and, well,â He glanced over at Taako before catching Magnusâs eye in the rearview mirror. âI was worried about his safety.â
âAww, are you sweet on him?â Magnus asked, laughing when Kravitz spluttered. âIâm kidding, thanks for keeping an eye out for him. Taako doesnât always make the best decisions.â
âIâm right here,â Taako crossed his arms defensively.
âGood thing, too,â Magnus said. âWhat were you thinking, going to a party alone? Were you trying to get yourself hurt? Or worse?â
Taako scoffed. âI can hold my own. Iâve got magic powers, you know.â
âSo do lots of other people,â Magnus argued. âYouâre lucky heâs a decent guy,â He jabbed his thumb over his shoulder in Kravitzâs direction. âOr gods know what couldâve happened to you.â
âWhatever,â Taako grumbled, sinking down in his seat and looking out the window. There was a tense silence that Kravitz felt had to do with something other than Taakoâs lackluster decisions tonight.
After a while, Magnus sighed. âYou know Lup still loves you, right? Just because sheâs serious about this boyfriend doesnât change that. Sheâs your sister.â
âDuh,â Taako sneered. âDoesnât mean I have to like him.â
âLook, you guys have been inseparable since birth, I get that,â Magnus continued, unfazed by Taakoâs rudeness. âBut you had to know that youâd grow apart eventually. Sheâll find someone - maybe this guy, maybe not - and you will, too. Probably.â
Taako continued staring out the window, unresponsive.
Kravitz didnât notice when Magnus glanced at him in the rearview mirror with a glimmer of mischief in his eye. âWhat about that guy in your Conjuration lecture? The one you said is super hot?â
Taakoâs ears perked up and he stiffened, side-eyeing Magnus. âI dunno what youâre talking about.â
âYou know, the guy who sits across the aisle from you? The one you said always dresses super nicely and has cheekbones that could cut glass?â
Taako was silent, but Kravitz could see a blush start to form on his cheeks. Kravitz shifted uncomfortably in his seat, feeling like he knew where this might be going.
Magnus continued. âYeah, you said you wanted to wind your hands in his hair and push him up against a wall-â
âMagnus.â
â-and let him suck marks into your neck thatâd be impossible to hide-â
âMagnus.â
â-and give him what I think you called the âblowjob of the centuryâ and then-â
âMAGNUS!â
âWhat was his name? Kravitz?â
Taako groaned, his face beet red as he put his head in his hands and refused to look over at Kravitz, who wished he could disappear into his seat.
âMagnus, Iâm gonna kill you,â Taakoâs voice was muffled by his hands.
âWhy?â Magnus asked, poorly feigning innocence. He glanced at Kravitz in the rearview mirror. âWhat did you say your name was, again?â He asked cheekily.
âI didnât,â Kravitz muttered, refusing to meet his gaze as his face burned. He knew that Magnus got his name from the app.
âWeâre here!â Magnus chirped, pulling into an apartment complex that Kravitz realized was right next to the one he lived in. He punched in the gate code and expertly drove around and stopped in front of what Kravitz assumed was Taakoâs building. He turned around in his seat. âYou live in the complex next door, right?â
âYeah, I can- I can walk from here,â Kravitz said, rushing to unbuckle himself and get out. He didnât really want to spend any amount of time alone with Magnus right now.
He walked around the car and opened the door for Taako, who practically fell out and had to be caught by Kravitz. Taako quickly pulled away, not meeting Kravitzâs eye or thanking him.
âDonât forget to tip!â Magnus shouted out the open window before driving away.
The two stood in an awkward silence for a few moments.
Taako turned to him. âThat guyâs a liar and not my friend.â
âSo then you didnât say any of those things?â Kravitz asked with a humorous glance.
âI-â Taakoâs face turned red again. âI mightâveâŚI mightâve said somethingâŚsimilar.â
Kravitz chuckled and took Taakoâs hand, prompting him to finally look up at him.
âWell, I would not be opposed toâŚgoing on a date with you,â Kravitz said. âAnd seeing where the night takes us. Can I see your phone?â
Taako wordlessly pulled his phone out of his back pocket and unlocked it before handing it to Kravitz.Â
He put in his number and handed it back. âI hope youâll text me sometime. When youâre sober, that is,â He smiled. He hesitated for a moment before pulling Taako a bit closer and leaning down to kiss his forehead. âIâll be wanting that jacket back,â He murmured, then pulled away and turned to start walking home, waving over his shoulder.
Taako stood still in shock, watching Kravitz walk away. His hand automatically rose to where Kravitz had kissed his forehead and he felt himself blush like some sort of middle schooler.
Kravitz turned and called out over his shoulder. âMake sure to drink lots of water! You donât want a hangover!â
âShut up!â He shouted back, but couldnât fight off the smile that crept across his face. He stood there, swaying a bit but determined to watch Kravitz until he couldnât see him anymore. The wind picked up and he pulled Kravitzâs jacket tighter around himself before he turned around to head inside.
It was definitely a better night than either of them had anticipated.
could we get some taakitz with adopted angus shenanigans? Pretty pleease
Animal Shenanigans - A Trilogy
1 - âConspiracyâ Has Multiple Definitions
âHow many did you say you saw today?â
âUm, about four at school, sir,â Angus answered. âThey kept moving around the courtyard and sitting up in trees or on poles near me. It kinda freaked my friends out.â
Kravitz made a sympathetic noise. âIâm sorry about that, Angus, I think thatâs my fault. They tend toâŚwell, find me. Whenever Iâm in the material plane,â He explained.Â
âI know,â Angus chirped. âIâve seen them in the backyard. But why did some of them follow me to school?â
âI think theyâve started to take an interest in you. It happened to Taako, too. He always sees one or a few when he goes somewhere, just keeping an eye on him.â
âThatâs kinda creepyâŚâ Trepidation was audible in Angusâs voice.
âOh, thereâs nothing creepy about ravens except societyâs perception of them,â Kravitz waved dismissively. âSure, the Raven Queen is the goddess of death, but ravens themselves arenât bad omens or anything. Theyâre actually very intelligent creatures.â
âI think you might be biased in thinking that, sir.â
âMaybe, but that doesnât mean Iâm wrong,â Kravitz argued. He stood up from the table. âCome on. Maybe if I introduce you to some of them, youâll feel better.â
âO-Okay,â Angus nervously replied as he got up.
âHere.â Kravitz pulled something out of his pocket and offered it up to Angus.
Angus took what looked like a few pellets. âWhat are these?â
âTreats,â Kravitz replied. âTheyâre special ones for ravens.â
Angus pocketed the treats and followed Kravitz out back, where the usual grouping of ten or so ravens was hanging out. They all turned to look at the two - specifically Kravitz - and watched as they walked up to the porch railing. The hairs on the back of Angusâs neck stood up at the unnerving sight. One raven flew up and rested on the railing in front of Angus, looking almost like it was investigating him. He turned to Kravitz questioningly.
Kravitz held out his hand and the raven readily hopped up onto his forearm, then turned to investigate Angus again.Â
âGo ahead,â Kravitz prompted.
Angus dug a treat out from his pocket and cautiously held it towards the bird, who regarded it for a moment before gently plucking it from his fingers and eating it. Kravitz nodded encouragingly as Angus held out his arm and the raven hopped onto it. He struggled to keep his arm up under the weight of the bird, but managed to hold it steady.
He looked up at Kravitz with pride, but hesitation was still visible on his face.
Kravitz didnât even seem to notice as another raven landed on his shoulder. âRavens are also very intelligent. They could probably help you with cases where thereâs a missing item or something.âÂ
âReally? Thatâs amazing!â Angus grinned at the bird, then pulled out another treat. The raven took it and flew off, joining the rest of the conspiracy in the yard. A few moments later, it returned - or perhaps it was a different raven - with a large red feather.
Angusâs jaw dropped. âI know this feather!â He exclaimed, taking it. âThis was on my favorite cap that got blown away in the wind a few weeks ago!â
âOh, yes, I remember. You were inconsolable for the rest of the day,â Kravitz said. âThey mustâve been keeping an eye on you for a while if they recognized that.â
âReally?â Excitement sparkled in Angusâs eyes. âThatâs so cool!â
Kravitz tousled Angusâs hair a bit. âSee? Theyâre not so scary now, are they?â
2 - The Fuzzball
âEw, Mags, is that a bug?â
âWhat? No! How many bugs have you seen that are this big?â
âEverything looks like a bug when you hold it in your giant ogre hands, homie.â
âIâm nowhere near the size of an ogre,â Magnus argued. âAnd itâs not a bug. Itâs a kitten!â
Taako eyed what looked more like a black fuzzball curled up in Magnusâs hands than an animal. âAnd?â
âAaaand,â Magnus hesitated. âI found her near my house all alone. No parent or siblings or anything. Sheâs really small for her age, and Iâd take care of her, but I donât think the dogs would take well to her.â
âSo, what? You want me to take it?â
âWell, yeah! Pets are good for kids. And since you wonât let me give Angus a dog-â
âDogs are gross and slobbery and dumb, no thanks.âÂ
â-I figured a cat would be a good idea.â Magnus continued as if uninterrupted. âAnd look how cute she is!â
As if on cue, the kitten untucked her head from under herself and opened her eyes wide to look at Taako. She had one bright green eye and one bright blue eye, and her steady gaze would be unnerving if it werenât offset by the fact that her ears were comically too large for her head. She stood up and arched her back in a stretch, her tiny claws unsheathing and barely pricking the callouses on Magnusâs hands.Â
Taako stared at her with an expression that wouldâve been unreadable to others, but Magnus recognized that he was considering the option.Â
âI think she mightâve been abandoned for being a runt,â Magnus added in a softer voice.
Taakoâs ears twitched at that - which was the exact reaction Magnus was hoping for. The kitten, noticing it, flicked her ears as well to mimic him. It was a cute enough action that it successfully broke even Taakoâs defenses, and his lips parted in a small gasp that he didnât bother to cover up.
Magnus chuckled. âYeah, I know, right? And she seems pretty smart, too. Why donât you hold her?â He offered up the animal.
Taako scrunched his face in fake disdain as he hesitated. Magnus knew it was just for show and waited patiently before Taako reached out and plucked the kitten out of his hands. She squirmed for a bit as he tried to figure out how to hold her properly. He quickly figured out the best way to hold her - one hand under and one hand keeping her steady - and lifted her up to eye level and stared at her.
She stared back, her gaze more unnerving now as Taako stared into the depths of her eyes. They stayed like that for a few minutes, neither one relinquishing. Magnus was starting to get unnerved.
Finally, the kitten blinked up at Taako and let out a tiny mew as if pleading with him.
Taako pursed his lips as if fighting off a smile, his ears flattening. âFine, Iâll take the fuzzball.â
âOh, good.â Magnus let out a sigh of relief. âYouâll love her, I promise. And Angus will, too. Whatcha gonna name her?â
âHmmmm.â Taako held the kitten up at eye-level and they stared at each other again. âJiji.â
âJiji? Doesnât that mean like âold manâ or something?â
âYeah, my dude. Itâs a little thing called i-roh-nee.â He ignored Jiji as she clambered up his sleeve to his shoulder, no doubt pricking his arm on her way up. âBut donât blame me if one of Kravâs ravens eats this thing.â
3 - Detectiveâs Helper
âIâm home!â Angusâs shout rang through the house as he hurriedly took off his shoes and raced towards his room, not bothering to take off his coat.
âWhoa, hey, slow your roll there, kemosabe,â Taako appeared from the kitchen and held out a wooden spoon in front of Angus to block his path. What looked like a small shadow darted into the room and Jiji started winding her way around Angusâs ankles in greeting. âHowâs the case going?â
âReally great! I solved it, actually,â Angus answered over-enthusiastically. âIâm also very tired from solving crimes and catching crooks, so I think Iâll just go to my room and take a nap before din- Ow!â
Jiji - who was getting much better at jumping - had leapt up onto Angusâs shoulder in one go, using her claws to stabilize herself. She started sniffing at the collar of Angusâs coat and stretched her neck out as far as she could in an attempt to stick her head in it as if searching for something.
âAgnes, I swear to the gods, if you donât up your Deception soon, youâre never gonna make it as a master detective.â Taako plucked the energetic kitten off of Angusâs shoulder and dropped her on the floor. She subsequently took off through the house. âWhat are you hiding?â
âMy Deceptionâs fine!â Angus argued. âI just suck at lying to you,â He added in a grumble. With a sigh, he opened his coat and took something out of his inside pocket - a small tortoise.
âWhat do you have there, Angus?â Kravitz walked in, Jiji perched on his shoulder like a gargoyle statue on a church. Upon spotting the tortoise, the cat hunched forward and her pupils instantly dilated so that her eyes looked all-black. She stayed where she was, though, as if some force were keeping her on Kravitzâs shoulder.
âDinner, it looks like,â Taako answered for Angus, swiping the tortoise from his hands.
âWhat?!â Angus and Kravitz asked at the same time.Â
âTortoises make an excellent soup, my dudes,â Taako assessed the small reptile. âIâll have to fatten him up first, of course. Way too small to feed the three of us.â
âNo, Taako, please!â Angus stepped toward him and grabbed part of his shirt. âI found him in the victimâs house and-â
âYou stole from a dead guy?â Taako interrupted. âHell yeah, kid, just like your old man.â
âMostparentswouldnâtapplaudthatbut anyway,â Angus made his point quickly before getting back to the main argument. âI wanted to keep him. He was actually important to solving the murder and he was gonna get sent to a shelter otherwise.â He drew his lips into a pout and looked up at Taako with wide, pleading eyes. âPleeease?â
Taako pursed his lips, trying not to let his facade crack. âWhere the hell are you gonna keep this thing?âÂ
âIâll get a terrarium! I even have my own money for it from detective work!â
âAnd when it gets too big for that?â
âItâs a Horsfield tortoise, sir. He wonât get much bigger than he is now.â
âBut what if he and Jiji donât get along?â Kravitz piped up, gesturing towards the agitated kitten on his shoulder.Â
âIâll keep him in my room!â Angus answered. âAnd Iâll make sure she canât break into his cage or anything.â He looked between them, his pleading face back on. âPleeeease?â
Taako and Kravitz looked at each other, some sort of silent communication passing between them, before Taako sighed in resignation. âThis place is turning into a zoo,â He grumbled, then held the tortoise out towards Angus. âFine, you can keep it.â
âYes! Thank you!â Angus threw his arms around Taako in a hug before he carefully took the tortoise from him. He hugged Kravitz, too, before holding the tortoise at eye-level. âCome on, Clyde! Letâs go see our room!â
âClyde?â Taako asked incredulously.
âI didnât name him, sir!â Angus called over his shoulder as he raced down the hallway.
Kravitz snorted. âYou named a female kitten âold man,â who are you to talk?â
âShut up.â
(Note: Angus absolutely does 1000% of the required research to take care of the tortoise bc heâs a good good boy)
could you write something with like angus sleeping in taako and kravitz's bed bc he had a nightmare or smthn?
I will since you asked me to but I would also like to point you in the direction of this fic by @inkedinserendipity bc itâs so soft and good and Iâm gonna have to try hard not to accidentally mimic itÂ
Taakoâs ears twitched and he woke up with a yawn. He was laying on his side with his arm thrown over Kravitz, who was sleeping on his stomach next to him. Looking around, he could easily see that it was still the middle of the night. Great.
Taako stretched cat-like and rolled over, hoping sleep would take him again soon. He often woke up in the middle of the night. His and Lupâs scrappy childhood, his years on the Starblaster, Sizzle it Up With Taako, and being an adventurer had all contributed to making him a light sleeper. Kravitz, meanwhile, slept like a log. The lucky bastard.
A new sound had Taakoâs ears swiveling towards the door. It was the distinct sound of small feet retreating down the hall. His eyes cracked open again and he stared at the wall for a few moments before hoisting himself up into a sitting position with a grunt, listening for any indication that the footsteps might return. He looked down and assessed his clothing situation. A tank top and shorts. He looked over at Kravitz. Sweatpants and no shirt. With a sigh, he used one hand to prod his fiance while the other summoned one of his t-shirts.
Kravitz groaned in irritation at Taakoâs pokes. When they became more insistent, he lifted up slightly so he could twist his head to look at him. âWhat is it?â
Taako held a finger to his own lips to shush him and shoved the shirt in his face, his ears still straining to listen for sounds outside.
Getting the hint, Kravitz took the shirt and put it on, then immediately flopped back down on the bed, already almost asleep again. Taako scoffed, always surprised that someone who was dead - and therefore didnât need sleep - was so hard to wake up.
After a moment, he heard the sound of footsteps cautiously approaching the door again. He could easily picture Angus, hesitating with his fist raised to knock.Â
âAgnes?â He called out. âI know youâre there. You can come in.â
There was a momentâs pause before the doorknob slowly turned and the door opened, the head of a little boy hesitantly poking in. The nervousness on his face was clearly visible. Kravitz craned his head so that he could see Angus as he stepped inside the room, wearing his Caleb Cleveland pajama set. Held in the crook of one of Angusâs elbows was the stuffed dog that Magnus had originally carved from wood, then asked Taako to transmute to a more huggable form.
âAngus?â Kravitzâs voice was thick with sleep. âWhatâs wrong?â
âOh! Um,â Angus spoke with forced cheer. âNothing! I was actually just walking past your room toâŚget a snack!â He turned and started leaving. âSorry to wake you, Iâll go now-âÂ
âAngus.â It was both Taakoâs warning tone and his use of Angusâs real name that caused him to freeze. âYou have terrible Deception.â
Looking guilty now, Angus stepped back inside and fidgeted with the hem of his button-down pajama shirt. âUm, I justâŚhad a bad dreamâŚis all.â
Taako hesitated. Bad dreams were something he knew well. âDo you wanna talk about it?â
Angus looked a bit surprised by Taakoâs seriousness, and stared down at the floor as he continued fidgeting with his shirt. âIt was, umâŚI had a dream thatâŚthe Hunger came back. And, umâŚyouâŚyou bothâŚâ
He fell silent, but it was easy to fill in the blanks.
Angus looked up and his hand flew to his face as if to adjust his glasses, but he wasnât wearing them and ended up passing it off as scratching his face. He forced cheerfulness again âI just wanted to see you and know you were okay! I can go now.â
Taako felt a tightness in his chest. Those werenât the kinds of concerns an eleven-year-old boy should be having. âDonât be ridiculous. Listen,â He reached behind him to put a hand on Kravitzâs shoulder. âDo you know what Kravitz does when I have a bad dream?â
âWhat?â
âHe tells me everythingâs okay and holds me till I fall back asleep,â He said matter-of-factly. âNow,â He adjusted himself to make space between him and Kravitz. âHop on up, boychik. Thereâs plenty of room,â He patted the bed to punctuate his statement.Â
Angus hesitated, glancing at Kravitz, who flipped himself onto his back with a grunt and waved him up. He hesitantly approached Taakoâs side of the bed and climbed up - the stuffed dog still held tight in the crook of his elbow - while Taako grabbed a pillow to put between his and Kravitzâs.Â
Taako moved the blanket so that Angus could easily crawl up and get underneath it, still looking uncertain even as his head hit the pillow. He turned to look at Kravitz, who seemed to be asleep again, then turned to Taako. âIs he always this sleepy?â He whispered.
âYou could say he sleeps like the dead,â Taako responded with a smirk.
Angus held the dog to his face to help him stifle his laugh.
âWell,â Taako said, reaching out with one arm and pulling Angus a bit closer. âGuess Iâm on snuggling duty since bird brain canât keep his eyes open.â
Angus readily snuggled closer to Taako, who kept his arm around him as the two fell silent for a few moments. He heard Angusâs breathing start to even out, indicating that he was drifting off.
âEverythingâs alright, pumpkin,â Taako murmured sleepily, feeling like the comment was a bit late. âWeâre safe.â
Angus was silent for a few moments, and Taako was sure that heâd fallen asleep until he heard him respond, his voice barely audible as he spoke while letting out a contented sigh, fully drifting off.
âThanks, Dad.â
Taako stiffened, heat rushing to his face all the way to the tips of his ears. He pulled Angus closer and curled around him protectively, his throat feeling inexplicably tight.

âAlright, so thatâll beâŚtwenty gold pieces for the sunglasses and coat.â The cashier held out his hand for the money. âHeyâŚDo I know you from somewhere?â
Taako gave him thirty gold pieces and slipped on the shades, ignoring the knot in his gut. âNo.â He turned on his heel and left, slipping the coat on.Â
Two weeks since Glamour Springs. Two days since heâd woken up to find that Sazed had taken the wagon and abandoned him. Despite the sting, he couldnât say he blamed Sazed for not wanting to be associated with someone like him.
He cast a quick spell on his hat to make it look more drab. As much as it pained him to do so, he couldnât risk his gorgeous hat drawing too much attention. He stepped outside and pulled the coat collar up to hide his face a bit more. As soon as he reached a town with a decent cosmetics store, he was buying hair dye. If only magic dyeing wasnât so temporary.
Taako stopped as something on a tree caught his eye. It was a Craigâs List posting; somebody was looking for a bodyguard/traveling companion on their horseback journey to Neverwinter. His ears perked up. That was halfway across the country! A perfect getaway.
He tore down the paper. Looks like this dude just found himself a traveling companion. And surely thereâd be more Craigâs List postings in Neverwinter so he could scrape together some cash to get by.Â
I need nothing to travel the seaI need nothing, I need nothingBut thereâs something eating at meBlack waterTake over
Angus sniffled and pulled his jacket tighter around himself and peered into the water. His teeth chattered with both chill and excitement. Not only was this his first time on a boat, but he had reason to believe his suspect was here as well. The mere idea of a boat crime was very exciting.Â
Not as exciting as a train crime, of course. He wasnât sure heâd ever have a case quite as vivacious as the one on the Rockport Ltd. But a boat crime could also be very exciting! The water certainly added an interesting component. What if the crook tried to swim away?
Angusâs thoughts started drifting towards that train case again. Something about it - specifically those strange fellows that had insisted on helping him solve it - didnât sit well with him. They were so sneakyâŚand bad at being sneaky as well. And they just disappeared after everything was over. Where did they go? Something in him told him that they were connected to a couple of odd missing person cases heâd been asked about.
Angus stood up straight, bracing his hands on the side of the ship. He made his decision: once this case is over, heâs going to get to the bottom of those three men and their weirdness.
Something smelled fishyâŚand it wasnât the ocean breeze blowing in his face.Â
Angus glared up at Taako, the expression even less menacing than it would normally be due to the amount of flour coating his face and curls. âShut up.â
At the sight of the small boyâs frown, Taakoâs serious face quickly dissolved into snickering, which quickly changed to full-blown laughter. âWhat were you trying to do, kid?â
Taakoâs laughter only succeeded in deepening Angusâs glare. âI was trying to make cookies. Itâs not my fault your flour container is so slippery!â
âWh-â Taako fought for air and wiped a tear from his eye. âWhatâre you trying to make cookies for?â
Angus opened his mouth to answer, then closed it and looked away.
Taako noticed. âOh, come on. Donât clam up because I laughed.â He reached out to put a hand on Angusâs flour-covered head, then seemed to think better of it and put it on his shoulder instead. âAre you making them for a crush?â He practically sang the last word and waggled his eyebrows.
âWhat? No!â Angus seemed offended by the idea and shrugged off Taakoâs hand. He turned to grab some paper towels to clean up the flour mess on the counter.
Taako raised his hands in mock surrender. âFine. Donât tell me.â He watched Angus clean for a few moments before his curiosity got the better of him. âWhat are you doing?â
âCleaning.â
âDuh. I mean why are you cleaning like that?â Taako crossed his arms. âDid my magic lessons mean nothing to you? You easily clean this up with a cantrip.â
âI donât wanna use magic.â
âWha-â Taako blinked in confusion, then sighed and took Angus by the shoulder and turned him to face him. âHey.â He knelt down in front of Angus so they were face-to-face. âTell me whatâs going on.â
Angus stared at him for a few moments, then looked down at the floor. âTodayâs my grandfatherâs birthday. IâŚwanted to make his favorite cookies.â
Taakoâs ears drooped a little. âOh.â
âAnd he wasnât- He didnât reallyâŚlike magic,â Angus continued. âSo I justâŚdidnât want to use any while making them. Itâs stupid, I know.â
âNahh,â Taako waved a hand dismissively, but his tone was soft. âWhat was stupid was not asking for my help, boychik. You think you know enough to use my kitchen without assistance?â
Angus smiled sheepishly. âSorry.â
âLook, I get it.â Taako hesitated for a moment. âI make my auntâs favorite pie every year on her birthday.â
âReally?â
âYeah. I mean,â Taako shrugged nonchalantly and his ears twitched in embarrassment. âSheâs the one who taught me how to cook, and all. âS only polite.â
Angus smiled sympathetically.
âDonât look at me like that. Listen,â Taako let go of Angusâs shoulders and clapped his hands together. âLetâs get this cleaned up and then we can get back to baking.â
âWe?â Angus blinked in confusion.
âDid I stutter? you think Iâm gonna let you have free reign of my kitchen after the mess you just made?â
He stood up and grabbed some paper towels and passed them to Angus before grabbing some more and helping to clean up the mess. When Angusâs back was turned, he cast a quick cantrip to clean up any residual mess theyâd missed. He then wet a rag and knelt down again to clean off Angusâs face. Once that was done, Taako sat back on his heels and looked up at the flour that was well-settled into Angusâs curls. âNot sure what to do about the hair.â
Angus gingerly touched his hair, inspecting the flour that immediately coated his fingertips. âItâs alright, Iâll just shower later.â
âYouâre gonna get flour all over my house before then.â
Angus sighed. âFine.â
Taako took the cue and pulled out his wand, easily cleaning the flour out of Angusâs curls. He put his wand away and slapped his hands to his knees before standing up. âSo, what kind of cookies are we making?â
âSnickerdoodle.â
âSnickerdoodle?â Taako frowned. âThat was your grampâs favorite cookie?â
âWellâŚâ Angus hesitated. âHis actual favorite was white chocolate macadamia, but-â
He was interrupted by Taako making various disgusted sounds.Â
Angus giggled. âYeah, I figured that wouldnât go over well-â
âWhite chocolate isnât allowed within a mile of this house.â
â-I donât like them either,â Angus continued. âAnd I didnât want to make cookies that would go to waste, so I decided on his second favorite cookie.â
âAlright. Did you have a specific recipe already in mind?â
Angus opened his mouth, then closed it again. âIâŚdonât.â
Taako cackled. âWhat was your plan here, kid?â
âI donât know, I thought Iâd figure it out!â Angus shouted defensively as Taako continued laughing.
âYouâre a mess!â He cackled. âCome here.â Taako lifted Angus and stood him up on the counter. âGrab that third cookbook.â
Angus did as told and passed it down to Taako. He leafed through the pages as Angus sat down on the countertop and pushed off of it so he was on the floor again.
âHere we go.â Taako turned the book so Angus could easily see a page with a recipe for snickerdoodle cookies. He then turned and put it on the cookbook stand. âGo take out two sticks of butter.â
Angus went to the fridge and grabbed two sticks of butter. He sliced them before setting them out so that they would soften just a bit faster. While he did that, Taako mixed together some flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. The two continued to work in tandem, both relatively quiet as they focused on the task at hand.
Kravitz came home to the tell-tale smell of baking. He smiled as he hung his mantle on the coat rack (more a formality than anything, since he could disappear it at any time) and kicked off his shoes before stepping fully into the house. As soon as he did, he heard small footsteps running towards him mere seconds before Angus appeared and tackled him with a hug.
Thrown off, Kravitz chuckled a bit. âI was only gone for a few hours.â
âYeah, but I wanted a hug.â Angusâs words were a bit muffled by Kravitzâs shirt.
Kravitz frowned in confusion before hugging him back. âAlright, then. Whatâd you two bake?â
âCookies!â Angus pulled away and grabbed Kravitzâs hand. He led him to the kitchen, where Taako was moving the last batch of cookies off the tray and onto a cooling rack.
âEveninâ, handsome,â Taako greeted.
âGood evening.â Kravitz gave his husband a quick kiss before surveying the cookies. âWhat kind of cookies are these?â
Taako cocked a brow before turning to Angus. âDudeâs as old as time itself and canât even recognize snickerdoodle cookies,â He muttered out of the side of his mouth.
âIâm not that old!â Kravitz laughed. âMy bad, I guess.â
âHere.â Taako took one of the cooled-off cookies and held it up to Kravitzâs face.Â
Kravitz recoiled on instinct to prevent Taako from shoving the entire thing in his mouth. He plucked it from his hand and took a bite. âMmm. This is good.â
âDuh.â Taako rolled his eyes and gave Angus a can you believe this guy face. âOf course they are. We made them. You gotta work on your food compliments, my dude.â
âAlright.â Kravitz took another bite and looked thoughtful. He leaned in so that he was face-to-face with Taako. âThey taste as beautiful as you look.â
âGross.â Angus stuck his tongue out in a disgusted face and started trying to push Kravitz away. âGet out of our kitchen.â
âWh- Alright, alright.â Kravitz chuckled as he let the small boy push him. He was nearly out of the kitchen when he felt Taako grab his arm and pull him back for another quick kiss before helping Angus push him out of the kitchen.
