Summary:
To have oneās braid cut is a joyous celebration. To cut oneās own braidāusing a green saber with a hilt too large in oneās shaking handāthis is a funeral, for two. Gone in this moment are both Master and Padawan. In their place kneels a single, lonely Knight, feeling far too small for this vast universe. His eyes skim across the brightly colored beads, dancing over each glistening gem of memory strung along the woven history of his life. Red. Green. Blue. Gold. Black. Clear crystal, for apprenticeship, sits nearest to the severed edge, slipping free of the singed hairs and spilling into his hand. What joy had swelled in his heart the day he first twined it into the hopeful tuft of hair he had allowed to grow long towards the waning of his Initiate years. Obi-Wan Kenobi remembers Qui-Gon Jinn.
