🚨CGW Presents a Zoom Lecture with Laura Wong 🚨 **”Mottainai: Japanese Mending through History”** This workshop will provide a brief introduction to the history of Japanese textile mending, utilizing real antique textiles from Japan as examples. We begin with a discussion of the history of textiles in Japan, including various Japanese textile terms such as boro, sashiko, and indigo (aizome), as well as the various techniques used traditionally to mend and reinforce cloth. After the lecture on Japanese textile history, I will demonstrate some more contemporary mending techniques which utilize traditional materials and tools such as sashiko thread and a palm thimble. Students are welcome to follow along and try the mending techniques themselves or just observe. *Registration Closes June 5th* Supply list and instructions to purchase optional $30 kit from @shopboroboro will be emailed with your confirmation. There are limited kits available, so order soon! The Zoom link will be emailed after 5pm on 6/6/25.
