Inicialmente, é preciso dizer que para os fãs de histórias como “A Assombração da Casa da Colina” de Shirley Jackson e “A outra volta do parafuso” de Henry James, este livro é um prato cheio! É curioso pensar em como casas podem ser assombradas de diversas formas, pelos mortos ou pelos vivos e os fantasmas que carregam... “Quando Elsie perdeu o marido apenas algumas semanas após o casamento, achou que já tinha sofrido o suficiente para uma vida inteira. Praticamente sozinha em uma casa enorme e isolada, ela não imaginava que passaria a lidar com estranhos acontecimentos nos cômodos de uma casa fria e silenciosa”. Até que ponto o medo, é irracional? First scary read of the season done and I was pleasantly surprised. The Silent Companions was eerie and atmospheric and made me jump a couple of times - damn you wooden figures! The only problem, or rather the weakest aspect of the novel is the ending. It is not only predictable but it leaves the reader cold. It feels like the ending is not at the same level as the rest of the novel but all in all, I highly enjoyable spooky novel. .
