iPhone X tips and tricks: how to get the best from Appleās smartphone
The iPhone X was released on November 3 and quickly sold out
The Ā£999 iPhone X is very different from Appleās previous mobile phones. It was released to mark the 10th anniversary of the original iPhone and is designed to reignite the spark of excitement which other recently released phones have snuffed out. The first thing youāll notice about the X is that itās missing a āhome buttonā which is used on other models to unlock the phone and return to the deviceās main screen. This means that using the smartphone will take a bit of getting used to for tech fans whoāve owned Apple handsets ever since the fruity firmās legendary founder Steve Jobs announced the first iPhone in 2007. Here are some tips and tricks to help you use the iPhone X a bit more effectively.
Ā Get back to the home screen
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā The iPhone X is missing the home button familiar from previous models
Ā When you first get an X, youāll probably stab away at its non-existent button when you want to close an app and go back to the deviceās main screen. But if you want to close down apps, just swipe up from the bottom of the screen and youāll get back to home. To open up the carousel which allows you to close down multiple apps, swipe halfway up the screen and then let go. If you then hold on one of the apps for a short moment youāll be able to swipe it up to close it down.

Ā Apple recently beefed up the screenshot function in iOS 11, which allows you to edit shots and send them without having to store the pics on your iPhone. However, youāll need to use a different command to take a screenshot onĀ the iPhone X. Just hold down the side button and then press the volume up button to take a photo of whatever you can see onscreen.
You can now also take a silent video of whatās happening on screen. To access this, go to settings and open the ācontrol centreā option. Click ācustomiseā and youāll be able to add theĀ record screen option to the control centre, which appears when you swipe down from the top right of the screen. You can record sound through your phoneās microphone, but not phone calls or the audio produced by apps.
Guard your phone against jealous partners
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā The iPhone X can be unlocked simply by looking at its front-facing camera
Ā Appleās Face ID system lets owners unlock their gadget by simply looking at it. This clever security mechanism works by scanning the contours of peopleās face, but will only work when people are alert, have their eyes open and are looking at the device. This is very useful because it stops people opening up the device by pointing at someoneās face while they are asleep. But if you want the phone to open when youāre not paying attention, go to settings and choose the āFace ID & Passcodeā option. You can then turn off the āRequire Attention for Face IDā option, but we cannot be blamed for any dirty secrets which are exposed as a consequence.
Ā As far as we know, the iPhone X is the first smartphone to let you record messages using a talking poo
Ā The iPhone X features new animated icons called animojis, which allow you to record your voice and have it mouth your words back to friends. To access these, just open up a text message and click the little icon which appears to the left of the box in which you enter text. You can then select the animojiĀ option, which is a small icon resembling a monkey. There are 12 animojis to choose from including the famous poo icon, which you can see in the gif above.
Charge the iPhone X wirelessly

This is something you might not notice because it requires you to buy a wireless charger like this £54.95 model from Mophie. Then, instead of plugging the gadget into the wall you can simply pop it on top of the plate and it will charge up. Apple is also set to release a cool new gadget called AirPower which will charge the iPhone X and several other iGadgets at the same time.
